I would like to complain about the biased and unbalanced tone of the Dispatches programme this evening. It was totally one-sided, with commentary only by pro-privatisers, and based on limited research in only 2 offices in South London. What's the agenda, that's what 'd like to know? Us posties work hard for very little reward, and it will be us who get it in the neck on the streets tomorrow because of your programme's biased reporting. You didn't even have the common decency to ask us what is wrong with our industry. You didn't ask a single serious question. Do you know about Downstream Access and the privatising agenda of the regulatory body? Do you know that private mail companies are riding on the back of the Royal Mail, and being subsidised by the tax-payer at the rate of over 2p a letter? Did you ask any posties how they feel about the destruction of their industry? No. Just cheap, shoddy, superficial journalism, based on sneaky, underhand methods of gathering information. What I want to know is will us posties get a right of reply to this? We don't care about Crozier. He's made his millions, but we are suffering under the regime he put in place. Please let us have our say.

Thanks Dispatches, me and my colleagues battled through the snow and ice to deliver mail when other office workers were sent home, schools were closed and over 50% of the UK grinded to a halt commercially. You manage to film a few agency staff giving up because of the conditions after an hour. Where was the other side of the story?

This was totally biased and CH4 and the film makers should be ashamed. This is not journalism, this is jackanory.

Typical biased based bullshit from a company that made the program to make money after all scandal sells well.

If they weren't in it for the money then they would have filmed in various offices around the country not just two.

That being said I loved it when they said here is Crozier who is leaving RM. He has been hailed as a hero for modernising the RM but in reality its still in a s**t state!

I guess its what I expected from the program, pretty much the same as the one before a few years ago... I guess the producers of it haven't learned to modernise either :left:
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

I worked for RM 'somewhere Up North' over Xmas & never saw anything like what was shown on the C4 programme tonight... I was genuinely shocked at this programme and the attitudes of those people...

However, it's very depressing even if there are only a small percentage of RM workers like those depicted on the programme, cos they screw it up for all the genuine hard-workers who take pride in their work...

I just don't understand why the lazy workers aren't disciplined or sacked, so that people like myself (who can't get a job) can actually work for a living ?

Does anyone remember "Right To Reply" on Channel 4? Well, I've found what has replaced it - here is their web page

http://blogs.channel4.com/thetvshow/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'll certainly leave a comment when I get in after work.....I suggest everyone else here does so too!

An " informed " right wing comment on the C4 webpage

CONCERNED on 8 February 2010 at 21:01
Mail down 8% and they have dropped 50% of the delivery schedule (once a day now) and these guys still can't put in a honest days work. I blame the unions for the mess of public services, legalised extortion.
:arrrghhh :d'oh!

Feel free to add some more with discretion http://www.channel4.com/programmes/disp ... /episode-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The managers filmed , who were sloping off early ? , were very off hand and unprofessional .

I'm so glad my office isn't like the ones shown last night. We have a decent set of managers. Mail is never left in and if someone needs a split to avoid overtime then someone else takes it and always on the same day. I hate these programmes, it makes us all look like a load of selfish buffoons.

i like this reply , made me laugh !!!! -------------- TOLLY THE TOOL on 08 February 2010 at 17:15 " Found this to be very apt Duetsche Poste and Royal Mail decided to have a canoe race on the river Thames . Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race. On the big day the Germans won by a mile. Afterwards, the Royal Mail team became very discouraged and morally depressed. The Royal Mail management decided that the reason for the crushing defeat had to be found. A "Measurement Team," made up of senior management, was formed. They would investigate and recommend appropriate action. Their conclusion was that the Germans had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, whilst Royal Mail had 1 person rowing and 8 people steering. So Royal Mail management hired a consulting company and paid them incredible amounts of money. They advised that too many people were steering the boat and not enough people were rowing. To prevent losing to the Germans again next year, the rowing team's management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering superintendents and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager. They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the "Rowing Team Quality First Program," with meetings, dinners, and free pens for the rower: "We must give the rower empowerment and enrichments through this quality program." The next year the Germans won by 2 miles. Humiliated, Royal Mail management laid off the rower for poor performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and cancelled all capital investments for new equipment. Then they gave a High Performance Award to the steering managers and distributed the money saved as bonuses to the senior executives."
"why should it just be the bankers, politicians and the idle rich who get all the best things ? we demand a standard of living for our members that enables them to share in the fine wines and times that the likes of Cameron and his Eton buddies take for granted " - the late great Bob Crow RIP.

:sad: Can anyone from a London office tell me if their Manager would be happy to answer all these questions put to him by any worker, not just a casual one? I was surprised to see this so called undercover reporter put all these queries to him, and get sort of polite and full answers! Seemed a bit dodgy to me! Our bosses wouldn't give you the time of day, and only address you , with some measure of glee if they are giving out warnings etc! and I hope the Manager who told that chap to take out a trolley which coudn't be secured gets investigated By our own I.B.

If all of the instances on this programme were taken out of context and is not a true reflection on the job in London, if posties here are being taken in and causing a "we hate London" scenario, what chance do we have of the public not believing every single word.
