Re: New Pay Deal
I am paid monthly and I've also been paid weekly in the past. I'd always choose monthly over weekly as my rent, bills, etc are monthly so it is much easier to manage. I've arranged most of my direct debits to come out of the bank the day after I get paid so I know exactly how much I've got to play with for the rest of the month.
One of the disadvantages to monthly pay is overtime, as you could be waiting a month for the extra money which would be less of an incentive to do it. I don't get overtime so it's not an issue for me.

So dont worry surely he wouldnt lie at an AGM we will stay on weekly pay.
Dosent mean though that individuals who wanted monthly pay couldnt have it or new recruirts were offered a choice.
My view is that each and every one of us gets to choose.

Yep give the indivduals a choice personally i couldnt cope on monthly pay.
My partner is on monthly pay her job is relatively well paid compared to ours and she incurs bank charges at the end of each month as shes gone into her overdraft. If she cant manage it on her pay how the FECK are we.

What a negative image of RM staff is portrayed by some in this thread.
Really reinforces the old stereotypes to any "outsider" who visits.
Sure you don't want to be paid at the end of each working day, just to be sure?

Re: New Pay Deal
You could at one time claim your pay daily AND in cash - and in quite recent times, certainly during my working life - it was known as the Truck Acts and was brought in in the 1800s to stop industrial barons from paying wages, in part, in tokens redeemable only in company stores. The element of the act allowing daily pay in cash was repealed by the Tories in the 70s, so in theory at least we could be paid by tokens once again - I sincerely hope this is not the basis for our biggest pay rise in decadesTman wrote:What a negative image of RM staff is portrayed by some in this thread.

Most negative images have been brought on by the way we are being treated by management, which by the sounds of this and other posts of yours, you must be 1.Tman wrote:What a negative image of RM staff is portrayed by some in this thread.

Re: New Pay Deal
Ah right, you don't want monthly pay because RM would earn interest on it. That's a brilliant argument, you'll have to make sure Big Billy mentions it the next time he's bumbling around in an interview and see if he can make himself sound even more stupid.linkinpark wrote:Some might say that the employee that likes monthly pay is a whipped worker that wishes to give even more money off his back to the employer? Still with your way of thinking lets move to 12 monthly pay and budget for that and if we starve its our fault anyway! Just think how much more the employer can gain from our graft, i for One would sleep well at night in my unheated room with hungry kids knowing i had helped my employers that do NOTHING to earn a crust enjoy their fast cars,OnAFlyer wrote:I don't know any other person that gets paid weekly. Re: New Pay Deal
they could up the pay as much as they like - our health is more important ! if the job gets (rumours again ) to the point of 5hr or more delivery times its just a disgrace and they can shove there job ! id like to see all these people do a delivery day in day out that slant us posties - get all these network managers e.t.c. to do the work over 6 days ! oh no they are all just lap top workers - all the people at the top seem to forget that this is one of the few jobs left that is very physical and hard work (proper) hard graft so GET REAL - this is all too much and i am very upset with how this is all goin - rant over but its not looking good is it ?? :cfo

Re: New Pay Deal
So your objection to monthly pay is because you feel the employer would earn interest on it? That's even poorer than the "I'll only spend it" faction......Some might say that the employee that likes monthly pay is a whipped worker that wishes to give even more money off his back to the employer? ....
LOL! Oops sorry i didnt realise we had a worker than can afford to give even more of of his hard earned cash to the employer

Re: New Pay Deal
My objections to monthly pay is i couldnt live on monthly plus all my direct debits would have to be changed so its got nothink to do with lining the employers pockets.

Re: New Pay Deal
my wife is a nurse and gets paid monthly
one of the problem is that she has to wait 5/6 weeks on o/t or unsocial hours worked
imagine trying to reclaim unpaid allowances,d2d and o/t in our job?
going back a week seems to be a major problem for them to work out
god knows how they would manage over a month

Re: New Pay Deal
But those figures are just guess-work Dad.[Word to the wise SON 150,000 X say a quid X a week X 52 or 7,800,000 quid is not chicken feed to me thats REAL GRAFT DECENT POSTIES EARN!
If you want to give say 52 quid a year to RM then thats your sad look out but the rest of us hard working, low paid posties could do with another 52 quid a year less tax rather than giving it to the BOARD! FFS.
You're guessing how much interest you'd make on say three hundred quid a week in a current acccount and quickly withdrawn, or possibly say thirteen hundred quid each month, and drawn out over the month.
Chances are that even in the usual next-to-FA interest current account, you'd make a little interest on what's in there.
Or are you moaning about the initial three weeks that you don't get paid when you go monthly? If that's worth £52 over a year to you then posties are better paid than I thought...
