However, a more likely explanation is that theft is endemic within Royal Mail and that a small minority of staff are routinely opening post that they think may yield some booty.
Isn't that a contradiction?

There does seem to be a connection between Channel 4 and the BBC. BBC breakfast TV often previews programs on C4.

However, we should cling to the thought that despite what C4 will show and the obvious bias to prove their preconcieved story they will still be faced with the fact that delivery postmen in particular have enormous support among the public.

Equally, if this program was filmed during Christmas pressure the chances are that a fair proportion of the individuals they show will be casuals or short term staff despite their orange jackets which I presume are worn by everyone these days.

What kind of idiot sends 50 envelopes unsealed? If they were the typical birthday card type envelope, they would be all torn and bits falling out just from normal handling. To me that renders the experiment pointless. No wonder some went missing, they are probably caught in a machine somewhere, due to the bloody flap flapping about.

http://www.channel4.com/about4/overview.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Channel 4 transmits across the whole of the UK, except some parts of Wales, which are covered by the Welsh language S4C. It is available on all digital platforms (terrestrial, satellite and cable) as well as through traditional analogue transmission.

Channel 4 also operates a number of other services, including the free-to-air digital TV channels E4, More4 and Film4, and an ever-growing range of online activities at channel4.com, including the broadband service FourDocs and Channel 4's bespoke video-on-demand service 4oD. The Film4 production division produces and co-produces feature films for the UK and global markets.

The Channel's primary purpose is the fulfilment of its public service remit, which was most recently defined in the 2003 Communications Act. This states that "the public service remit for Channel 4 is the provision of a broad range of high quality and diverse programming which, in particular:

(a) demonstrates innovation, experiment and creativity in the form and content of programmes;

(b) appeals to the tastes and interests of a culturally diverse society;

(c) makes a significant contribution to meeting the need for the licensed public service channels to include programmes of an educational nature and other programmes of educative value; and

(d) exhibits a distinctive character."

As a publisher-broadcaster, Channel 4 does not produce its own programmes but commissions them from more than 300 independent production companies across the UK, a far greater number than any other broadcaster, including the whole of the BBC. It works very closely with the independent production sector, and invests heavily in training and talent development throughout the industry.

The Channel 4 service was originally established under the Broadcasting Act 1981 and was provided for by the Independent Broadcasting Authority. The Channel Four Television Corporation was subsequently established under the Broadcasting Act 1990 and the Channel's functions were transferred over to the new Corporation in 1993. The Corporation's board is appointed by OFCOM in agreement with the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

Communications Act

The Communications Act 2003 (schedule 9) imposes on the Channel 4 Television Corporation certain procedural obligations. The Corporation has implemented certain Arrangements in the pursuit of good corporate governance and in compliance with these obligations.

couple of examples for the stupid journalist of things that have happened to me when i've been throwing a round in,

was putting an item of mail into my rm2000 frame and something shot out of the envelope-the item just happened to be a Manchester Utd season ticket that a supporter had sent his mate because he couldn't go to a game. I know this because i asked the bloke i delivered it to and i also bollocked the bloke and told him next time your mate sends it make sure the envelope is sealed up. Suppose the moral of the story is that the season ticket swipe card thing could have come out of that envelope anywhere in the system and not when i was throwing it in! Result being it goes missing so the postie obviously knicked it. WRONG.

Same as above birthday card hadn't been sealed up properly, £40 fell out onto the floor, the birthday boy got his card and his money though. Same as my first example.

Any business that employs casual staff on the run up tp xmas without checking them properly is going to get hammered by stuff being stolen. Why do you think half of them apply?

How about you journos have a go at the crap management who employ these people, the management who don't do the checks, the management that ignore procedures because of time and budget constraints.

99% of posties wouldn't dream of stealing anything out of the post. 99% of posties will move heaven and earth to reunite that dvd that they,ve found while packet sorting to the empty packaging it's fallen out of.

what has the humble postie ever done to get such a bad press not just from tv but the newspapers aswell?

I'll give you imbeciles a clue,

Attack the management, and the press office will start hitting back, attack some execs & they might even get on the blower to top ( read "overpaid" ) legal firms - attack the potless prole, and no comeback ( other than a lot of reasoned letters - like some of the above posts, and a few ranting letters, all nullified by ill-informed MOPs with their 2nd & 3rd hand "true stories" of thieving postmen ( which 9 times out of 10, could be agency, temps, or even our bloody rivals incompetence / crinimality!!! )

Basically, it's easier for a lazy bully to attack the weak & unrepresented, than it is to attack another bully.

Politics, politians and the utterly crap management are to blame for quite frankly destroying the PUBLIC SERVICE ETHOS of the company I have worked for ,over a quarter century now.
I want nothing more than to serve my community,nothing more than my fair dues at the end of the week .
All the supposed grand changes have put paid to my being able to do a good job,and I have no say at all in there imposition.
Think people, beyond the box,just what is being lost ,by blindly destroying a service that threads itself through our culture and communities ,suprisingly we have and do make profit,but constant government cash grabbing has left a company short for decades,existing in real terms on pocket money.
The day to day fiscal needs and long term investments ,undermined ,throughly for decades....
I do not go to work to be threatened, abused and to be so pissed off all the time ,because of an utterley CRIMINAL management culture, British management have always been crap,take a look at our industrial history, them and us chaps them and us .....?
If people think allowing Parliament to forget its moral duty to the people here ,it should have resigned last year ,when that little scandle broke finally in the summer,they are the ones pulling the strings,yet they fail constantly to abide by the wishes of the electorate....?Bit of a rant AHH! :Applause

oldest Ebay trick in the book that , and Paypal usually sides with them - gone too far the other way ? , always send recorded & get them stamped by the PO , pay cash over the counter at the PO , to keep it open ? or get certificate of posting . If people have genuine problems] you back them up with RM .
