Unfortunately as they were not balloted they could not legally go out. The good old CWU has no qualms about including us in strike action, even though there's no gains to be had, just loss of pay.

Billy Hayes was at our AGM on sunday and he was asked whether or not we are to go onto monthly pay his answer was NO.
So dont worry surely he wouldnt lie at an AGM we will stay on weekly pay.

None, we weren't balloted. We always have separate pay negotiations. It's a shame really because if we were to join in on the strikes, it would definitely have more of an effect at the top. I'm sure they'd sort things out quicker if they weren't getting paid because there was no-one to process their pay. Obviously the reason why our pay negotiations are separate.dvbuk55 wrote:

This is my personal opinion based on what's happening in HR Services at the moment, but I don't think monthly pay is as big an issue as it was a couple of years ago. I think the push towards monthly pay was to enable HR to be out-sourced but I don't think this is on the cards at the moment. We are getting a new HR system at the cost of tens of millions of pounds and it will certainly reduce the headcount in HR significantly. It has taken years to find the right company willing to deliver the new system due to the difficulties of weekly pay. I'm not sure if there is that much to be gained by going monthly once the system is in place.

I don't understand why so many people are against monthly pay. 99% of bills, Mortgage etc are paid monthly or quarterly, so it would only be a problem if you are so poor with money you can't budget for the month.

<puts his hand up> I get paid every friday morning, and am usually stone broke by mid saturday afternoon. At least I only have to go another five days to get paid, whereas when I used ot be paid monthly I would be broke by the third and have to survive another three and a half weeks.
Would have a bloody good three days, tho!

As things are, because we get paid every friday morning if you do overtime and it works out you take home £300 per weeks then you would have £600 in your hand in a matter of 7 days!! (Friday to Friday) This is far better than monthly pay!!

If you were paid monthly you'd have £1300 in one day instead of £600 in 8 days. ive seen some guys coming in raging to the manager because they wasnt paid properly etc.
they demanded money out the petty cash..

He is bound to say NO. he is looking for votes. Most Councils are on Monthly pay in the UK what's stopping us. i thought that was the whole reason behind giving us weekly.
so that we have enough money to get the bus eat etc through the week..
instead of being skint one week before pay day if it was monthly.
christ isnt it about time they had this agreement out ?
