Keeping your spirits up.

Post by La Poste »

It is a known fact that delivery postmen and women have one of the toughest jobs going. The physical demands are very great and there must come times in the day when your energy levels begin to drain.
I was wondering if anyone on deliveries could recommend a way of revitalising oneself when starting to flag.
Do you have an energy drink you can recommend or do you eat certain foods?
Any advice would be most welcome.
Thanks.
No I'm not being paranoid, they really are out to get me.

Deterioration of my mental spirit is what concerns me, so I tend to listen to Radio 4 on headphones on my walk to distract my mind ( 9 months ago, I spent 3hrs on delivery thinking about suicide ), as it's an MP3 player, if I really need something else, I flick through the albums I have loaded. As for physical deterioration, I usually stick it out, with a few fags on the way - usually at or after bag drops, but I keep on walking as soon as I'm loaded, and I try to make sure I stop and sit down and appreciate the tab at my last bag.....if things get desperate, I usually have a Mars bar or something in my pocket for emergency energy. I also suck sugar free cough sweets ( cherry or lemon Fisherman's Friends or cherry Hall's ) while I'm out to keep some moisture in my mouth, occaisonally I also use Dextrosol glucose tablets ( if the chemist don't have any of the above ), but that is quick short term energy.
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

I always take at least 1 banana and a mars bar on my walk, helps to keep me going. I know what you mean though, some days I just feel nakered after an hour on the road.

HCT on my walk it's a lot easier than carrying a bag.

You can also fit a picnic in the front compartment.

Thats what i take, Mars bars and banana's, the energy drinks will give you a quick boost, but leave you feeling even more kanckered when the caffeine and sugar hit wears off, theres no substitute for carbohydrates.

having something to eat on your break before you go out, and taking water, an apple and a cereal bar ( usually a nutty fruity one) works wonders for me - gives you that little boost halfway round and is not to heavy to carry

Tea, you can't beat a good cup. Get a good stainless steel flask and have the milk in a separate bottle. I make my T at 0545 and its still hot at 14.00hrs.

3 cups of coffee, cheese butties, packet of crisps,2 chocolate bars and a banana.

Then im fuelled and ready to roll ,still takes me 30 minutes to get into my stride.

I find the beggining of my round the worst as i know what a slog ive got ahead of me.
