They need to have a lot of floor space to house one, they are esentially a LSM bolted onto the end of an MTT. PO MC will probably get other MCs old MTTs and LSMs. Looking at the 3D image of PO MC on Google Earth, which part of that building is the MC?

If your looking at Google earth the large expanse to the right of the multistorey building house the mail yard on the ground floor. The Mail Centre is floor 1 -which covers the mail yard area too.

I've seen loads of possible changes to working conditions regarding delivery on BlueShirts,but bugger all about MC workers?Any news anyone?!?

I have heard that MC workers will again pay for deliverys pay rise £40 a week extra, The deal being over 4 years and MC workers have to lose TPM money. If true least i will save my union money.

Yes but i need the latest Sony amp as it has an HDMI interface and that means only one hole in the wall for the cable to the flat screen ........ anyway, Mail Centre closures are up and running now with replacement 'super' sites like Warrington going on stream soon. Compensation packages for those workers who dont want to travel large distances to keep their jobs will be the main items of note coming from this agreement. As for Posties being in a better position than Mail Centre workers .... dream on, delivery is going to be a part time role, no bike just a trolley delivered to your house a hat and a pair of shoes.

Something is bound to happen at some point they will either merge us with Portsmouth and Southampton or close one of us and split the work from the closed office between the remaining two. I did hear mentioned once that Portsmouth City Council were going to buy the building that Portsmouth Mail Centre is in with a CPO to put a dual carriageway through the site, not been able to find anything on the net about it.

Portsmouth has the IOW mail so if they were to be closed then the IOW mail would have to be re-routed.

Southampton I heard that they were warned about bags going over the perimeter fence and that they could get kicked out the site if another bag goes over the fence, any truth in that?

For the record there are currently 64 mail centres , Royal Mail believe that they can run on half that number. However there 5 year plan is aimed at reducing the number of mail centres to 46. The union has not agreed to a single closure , but equally due to a number of factors it becomes very differcult to make cases to stop some from closing.

I know that is differcult for members to understand but in many mail centres now there is under capicity. One outward pass is also a contributor to closures the belief that you replace the hours you lose on the outward to inward has proved a busted flush.

Thanks "the truth" on that info about the next 5 years with royal mail.At least we know that it is their intention to reduce further .This is the first time i have had more detail on the future.Will there be briefings on the business plan to people that work within mail centres in the near future?

Also doesn't help much when someone who implies he sits on our team of negotiators thinks that having "under capicity" at MC's is a reason for closure. Not much hope for us if this genius is for real,luckily I have my doubts

Belial I have never said I was on the team of negotiators , if I was I would be in at a nice hotel on the outskirts of London ( Berkshire ) trying to get a deal on behalf of the membership.

Equally Belial I am not making any assumptions which I cannot prove , or is not factural. Look I was dealing with a mail centre a couple of weeks ago which is not unique where their out ward has fallen by 60% per centre in 5 years. Their inward is down but by only less then 10%. This mail centre is not an isolated case as I have dealt with quite a few closures and revisions involving mail centres and traffic is down for a number of reasons not just downstream access, the recession , one outward pass , better machinery throughputs.

No one likes that fact and you can spin it as much as you want but ask anyone who has worked in mail centres over a long period and its not the same. With one outward pass you wipe out the old divisional breakdown and remove plenty of hours from the outward which has already suffered because of DSA.

I have seen the heartache of mail centre closures and do not wish that on anyone, but I would be lying if I thought the Union would save anyone.

Belial you can have a pop at me anytime but if you do so tell me how you know every mail centre is up to full capacity
