Royal Mail: Bicycles

House of Lords

Written answers and statements, 27 January 2010

Lord Berkeley (Labour)
To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment Royal Mail has made of the effects on health, road safety and the environment that would arise from its plan to switch deliveries from bicycles to vans.

Hansard source (Citation: HL Deb, 27 January 2010, c356W)

Lord Young of Norwood Green (Government Whip (technically a Lord in Waiting, HM Household); Labour)
Decisions regarding its delivery operations are matters which are the direct responsibility of Royal Mail's senior management team.

I have therefore asked the chief executive of Royal Mail, Adam Crozier, to respond directly to my noble friend and a copy of his reply will be placed in the Library of the House.

This chap has asked three questions of the Government on the issue of RM bikes each time he is fobbed off by ex comrade Young.

So when they put x 0000 vans on the road coughing fumes out and putting more pedestrians at risk, will this government then accept responsibility. Answer. No. They will have an enquiry probably called the Crozier Enquiry, where they can claim more and more expenses to come and lie and cheat. Crozier will write up a report and it will be filed in some backstreet warehouse, never to be seen again.

Thought it was Normy's dad who got on his bike! ( Did they actually have bikes in the Stone Age?)
Think Normy would rather ride his bike...without the saddle!

Our MP is none other than the shadow climate minister(or something like that).
I will be writing to him, and asking his veiws on RM's proposals regarding replacing cycles with vans.
In previous meetings, he has shown an apathy towards our plight, perhaps this revelation will stir his interest.
If it doesn't i'm sure the electorate will want to know why not. :no no
