Dingo thanks for the info mate but I have a question. Is there going to be any agreement on Pegasus in these negotiations? There has recently been proposals been put in our unit to take out a couple of walks with probably more further down the line. Is there goin to be an agreed walkin speed, call rate, health and safety spec, toilet breaks etc? Also, should our rep be in on these talks for savings whilst there might be an agreement later? Belfast yes if there is an agreement then there will be an agreement on geo route .peagsus , revison procedcure , standards indoor , a whole range of other delivery issues. Now whether you get involved at this stage is a differcult one as the key to whether a geo route revision walks is first and foremost whether mapping verificiation via sid and sarah has been properly done with each walk holder ensuring all the delivery points are recorded and accounted for.

However I would only get involved at this stage if the revison had a number of things in the terms of reference which was beneficial to the members.

Hooty post is spot on, by the number of posts on here everyone believes that christmas is our strongest time, well I guess most of you have not had a strike at christmas because if you did then you know that is bull s**t , it is bloody hard to get all the members on board as whilst they support the union they also have an obligation to the ir families at christmas and is never easy to convince them.

But the election run up is key if we have to go out again and the delivery of election material is a pressure point on the government especially on the pension issues.

This as you well know dingo is a double edged sword

No goverment wishing to be re-elected can afford to be seen to be pressured by the unions and there are stll many inside HQ who would balk at the idea of damaging the Labour party in the run up to a general election.
This is not about membership courage,that is not in question.This is about HQ deciding where their priorities lie.
Having said that i believe the talks will conclude with an agreement simply because RM cannot afford to waste any more time.

It beggars belief that a man who was screaming for further strike action in November leading up to Christmas is now saying that it was the worst time to strike; if that was the case why would they call a National Ballot then? Why not wait until now?

Christmas time has what? Twice as much mail as any other time of the year and would create tremendous problems for Royal Mail - everyone was up for the fight then - now? - with all the little tit-bits fed piecemeal they are already expecting the worst.

Why not wait til election time, why not wait til the new government is in, why not just wait................... like we have been doing for the last 3 months.

Once you let them cut your hours, they will carry on until you are part-time. To start with, your hourly rate will be higher but with galloping inflation, devaluation to join the euro and threats of more job cuts you will soon be buggered.

The problem is while all these 'Talks' are going on, and on, and on, changes which have not been agreed to are being implemented!none of them in our favour. and once again, I smell a carrot here--all talk about possible big pay rises,
and many other 'benefits'--which will come to nought! I have heard it all so many times before.

reg part timers on own jobs now. Loads of part timers have now their own walks now in our office ,while f /t people with loads more seniority have to accept reserve or floating duties.Its all wrong .

I find it VERY hard to beleive there is anyone in the Union, or even anyone in the labour (small l) movement at all who still beleive the Labour party represents them. What exactly has the Labour party done to help labour? The traditional bond between labour (small l) and Labour (big L) is a thing of the past.

Dingo, I have a question and would welcome your take on it. It comncerns a statement you made in the "rumours" topic. Whilst listing the benefits you mentioned people could "remain" full time. Is this a change of emphasis? I believed we were looking to have more part timers made up to full time. what happened to agreed ratios...75% / 25%. I know this point was mentioned as being one of the sticking points to a deal. Is it still the intention to push royal mail to offer progression for part timers to full time? Or have we changed to protecting the current full time positions we already have? I should add that I have more than enough service to get full time, but Royal mail are stopping my progression by not replacing full timers when they leave.
