You are not wrong - from reading stuff on here and elsewhere the IB can detain you if you refuse to allow them to search your property or you, but only till the real Police turn up and then they decide if a search is acceptable under law.
IB only have the power akin to a citizens arrest as far as detention goes.

Also they need a search warrant issued by a Justice of the Peace AND need to accompanied by a FULL police officer in order to search any of your property without permission. Of course if you refuse and the issue ends up in a criminal court the refusal could be used as evidence against you.

They do not have the powers of PACE so enforced stop and search is a no no.

Say goodbye to the IB when privatisation is steamrollered through circa next election.

There are numerous things they could pick me up on, although I don't know if they would warrant dismissal or not. And on a 20 hr contract I really couldn't give a s**t :so there

Do IB actually follow you round on your walk then?
There's been a few instances where I've seen cars following me, people parked up watching me with a clipboard or something, etc.
Maybe I'm just paranoid  :Very Happy

who gives a s**t? if they are there they could atleast introduce themselves not just sit there spying on u like your some kind of terrorist. And if they make you feel paranoid they are probably doing it on purpose which i think is sick minded.

if they want to act inhumane then thats what royal mail want. i for one am just a postie i wear the uniform and deliver letters.

why all the nonsense? and unsensible approach to work issues.

i see storys about people stashing mail in my eyes its not there fault and they have been forced into this because there manager is so unfriendlyt and unnaproachable and unhelpfull that they feel it was there ONLY option. i for one allways keep all my mail in the bag and i dont cut very much mail so its manageable for the next day . but these guys obviously had some serious issues with there delivery they either couldnt cope or they just didnt attent for other reasons. could the manager not of had a word and asked if he has mail and if he would liek to get it sorted out. instead of being publicly humiliated in the local papers and internet articles dystroying there reputation and future for future employment. with a criminal record .

perhaps there could be a - pot - where you could put alot of mail that u feel is ( unmanagable ) and it will get sorted if its unmanagable then its UNMANAGABLE . end of - there shouldnt be fear involved .

Ps how could i apply for a job with the royal mail spys? or do u gota be a ex coppa?
just kidding id never join the dark side.

but i could be our new leader? if you want guys :) vote me in hahaha

 Yes, what always gets to me is how they never seem to catch those one or two people in every office, who constantly get away with quite clear dodgie behaviour! The blue eyed ones who everyone knows is at it.

The old "ain't my fault" whine wears a bit thin after a while.

You only need to fear them if you have a guilty conscience.

If you really want a laugh, phone the police and tell them that you're a postie who's being followed by suspicious people (you could ham it up by saying that you fear that you're going to be robbed) and watch as they have to explain themselve to the police :chuckle

Wait for signutures! Dont doorstep! leave nothing in your pouches out of sight of you! And we could go on for hours with this! It's a good point linkin,How long before IB are replaced by someone who will turn a blind eye.

One guy in our office had a IB guy come upto him as he got back to his bike. He'd left his bag onfront as he'd made a delivery in a shop. The IB guy was telling him off for it but he said he wasn't being careless as no-one was about and just tried to come across as a good honest postie.Nothing happened over it. Believ the regs do say you CAN leave pouch infront of bike and out of sight for a short time (20-30secs) so maybe he was OK on that front.

In the old days we used to have IB that came in the office and walked round with hands behind back like a headmasters.
Everyone in the office shut up lol and worked like beavers. You couldn't hear a sound :),it was like everyone was holding their breath.
All of a sudden, "where's your badge" "its at home sir :)" "you should be wearing it"...then they go in to the office and everyone breathed again rofl.
One of them looked a right hard bastard.Like he'd beeen in the army or was ex cid lol.
But now they just seem like regular blokes and they seem pretty normal when they come up to you in the street.
But they do make you think that you've done something wrong sometimes, when you know you haven't.
