A WORLE postie will be taking part in the London Marathon to raise money for Kidney Research UK.

Ian Shillcock, who has been working for Royal Mail for six years, has been training with Weston Athletic Club ready for the run on April 25.

He said: "My mother received a kidney transplant eight years ago and as a sufferer of polycystic kidney disease myself I realised the good work the charity carries out.

"As I head towards dialysis or a kidney transplant in 2011, the importance of supporting the charity and organ donation becomes more apparent."

Ian, a former Broadoak school and Weston College pupil, served 12 years in the army before returning to Worle in 1997.

He worked as a chef at Weston's Winter Gardens and at the Penscot Inn in Shipham before returning to Royal Mail in 2004.

Anyone wishing to sponsor Ian can visit http://www.kidneyresearchukevents.org/shills" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or call into the Royal Mail Delivery Office in Warne Road.
