Well if it is going to take two whole days to explain it to the PEC - what chance the rest of us? Or is it a question of trying to get the PEC to coerce the rest of us into a dodgy agreement?

Are the managers being called in for a two day meeting - or have they already had the nod on their little soiree week before last? Why do I ask? Because we have been told to make room for two more key cabinets and a second cabinet for more PDAs in the locker just today. Vans and HCTs on the way ............................................ I think so - numbers undetermined at the mo - but the walks are already in the pipeline though not seen yet.

Completely agree Daz, we have 6 managers in an office of 130, get each of them out on a monday wi 6 chosen postman,doing the job properly, and see where you finish after 3 hr 30, its not rocket science.

do the same on a thursday/fri/sat and within a few weeks, equalisation of the walks.

They do it when they test you, so why not when a revision comes in?

My bosses are well pissed off, ive cut off every day bar one for the past 8 months, i do the job to the letter.

Because by and large they disappeared in favour of the "table top revision" which was usually run by a pair of no hopers let loose with a crayon.

Oh yes there is - and bang up to date too - cue CWU TV - CWU Royal Mail workers have taken national strike action - wow really? have the talks broken down? If that site is run on the same lines as the negotiations we're in deep doo doo.

Here we go again, the PEC have been called to a two day meeting next week and everyone starts saying its a sell out again.

Talks are still continuing as we speak to thrash out whether there can be a deal.

It was and always will come down to what goodies are in the deal and if that does not meet the unions aspritations then there wont be a deal full stop.

The PEC being called to a two day meeting Weds and Thurs came today. The PEC were already due to meet on Tuesday in any case.

If an agreement is thrashed out in the next 72 hours then yes the deal will first go to the PEC that is ensurined in the CWU Rule book. However if there is not a deal then it may well be a full report on the current talks and what the unions moves should be next.

Now of course senior managers will be briefed on the agreement if there is one.

Now please be in no doubt Royal Mail "s commericial delivery strategy ie delivery methods , geo route , walk sequencing and the change to the work plan is not dependent on whether their is an agreement. Royal Mail have paid the money for the machines and 420 million on delivery methods they have not done that to not introduce their plan. This agreement was always about getting safeguards and benefits from these in-evitable plans.

To give you just one issue where we are still having problems and shows the scale of what Royal Mails changes will bring is that they wont give a commitement that everyone who wants a full time job within Royal Mail will be guaranteed one.

Its very easy to do down the scale of change but Royal Mail have played a great game in not revealing the scale of their change to staff. Instead they want the union via a national agreement to explain the change and take a lot of flax.

However be in no doubt the Royal Mail"s changes are not going away.

Call me a stick in the mud if you like but i'm more interested in the "baddies" in the deal.
Goodies are fine but the are quickly forgotten when the sh1t hits the fan.

A simple update saying talks continue for a few more days over the weekend etc etc would have been nice, or does Mr Poole not allow that?

Rightly or wrongly the members expected a update today.

OK stick in the mud when are they going to turn the fan on? It seems to me that this is yet another extension - and there seems to be quite a distance to go despite the promises yesterday that we are there. RM are going to make the CWU take the flack? - no the members are going to make the CWU take the flack - RM employ us and pay our wages - WE pay the CWU to look after OUR interests and pay their wages.

As the PEC were due to meet Tues why wait until Weds and Thurs that's another week gone. If RMs modernisation plan is already there and presumably agreed, then what's the hold ups?
Suddenly from a 75/25% split FT and PT RM are no longer promising that and we haven't even got to the ballot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They also act as collector of CWU fees.
All the reps, all the area reps etc, they all receive a pay cheque from RM.

I am sorry Truth and Digno (Dave and Billy as well) but the longer this drags on the worse the complaints are going to get. People are not expecting a in the agreement but the longer it drags on without concrete evidence of a decent outcome, then the more people are going to expect its human nature

They aren't the ones negotiating laposte, it's the full time union officials whose salaries we do pay, if they took a smaller slice of the pie, then the reliance on Royal Mail to subsidise union activities would only make the union stronger - you can't have a football match if one side threatens to bugger off with the ball and I strongly suspect RM use that as a negotiating tool.
