That is a good report mate. DC Thompson are a well known union bashing organisation, so it's nice to see some fair reporting on the case.

i work in 1 of the dundee offices and we normally get hammered by dc thomson but today's coverage was fair

after a further quote saying 98% of posties were thieving scum i asked him to provide evidence before i commenced with legal proceedings . i then e-mailed york press and asked them to remove both offending comments before i sought legal advice. both comments disappeared within half an hour.

Not much will be reported in the media if our turnout is good. They want to show that the strike is failing not succeeding, this tends to be a bias of some media these days. Instead of balanced reporting, we get sensationalism that sells newspapers instead of just reporting the actual news.

Postal workers man picket lines

Postal workers took to picket lines as a fresh 24-hour strike went ahead in a bitter row over pay and jobs.

The Communication Workers Union said up to 130,000 of its members walked out at 7pm on Thursday, following an earlier stoppage last month.

At midday on Friday, postal workers plan to arrive at the Royal Mail's head office in London on a red open-top bus.

They will hand over an oversized open letter addressed to Royal Mail chairman Allan Leighton, calling for a return to negotiations.

The union has rejected a 2.5% pay offer and warned that the Royal Mail's modernisation plans will lead to the loss of 40,000 jobs.

Union representatives met with Royal Mail earlier this week in a bid to begin fresh talks.

But the union later said: "Disappointingly, Royal Mail simply concentrated on reiterating their previous offer that the workforce has already overwhelmingly rejected."

The Royal Mail has said it was "deeply disappointed" that another strike had been called, warning of further disruption for customers.

It has said it was ready to meet the union at any time to explain its offer.

Business leaders have called on the Government to intervene in the dispute.

MERSEYSIDE business leaders today urged the government to intervene in the Royal Mail strike.

Postal workers are staging a second, 24-hour walk-out starting at 7pm today.

The Communication Workers Union says 130,000 staff across the UK will take part, with 2,500 of those on Merseyside.

The union has rejected a 2.5% pay offer and warned that the Royal Mailâ€™s modernisation plans will lead to the loss of 40,000 jobs.

Among the services the union claims are at risk is the Copperas Hill sorting office in Liverpool city centre, which employs 700 people, although Royal Mail denies this.

Branch secretary Mark Walsh said: â€œThe problem is that the management will not speak to us about their plans for the future.

â€œThey wonâ€™t even consider consultation on their closure plans, so we have to take this action to show them we wonâ€™t stand by while jobs and services are cut.

â€œI have no doubt customers realise that if Royal Mail is allowed to axe Copperas Hill, then the service will suffer and that is why we have received a tremendous level of support from the public.â€

tell us something we dont know its not as though we want to strike,pity no one seems to concentrate on what has forced us into these actions just how it affects them
