And you're the one who says an HCT will be slower - believe me I've seen tortoises move faster than a bloke delivering from a bike. Oh yes, bad times ahead - I think so.Big Daz wrote:Unless we go into flats then the mail pouch stays in the front tray.
The info we get from the DOM and the Delivery manager is to keep the mail in sight and dont go too far away.

Re: CAR DERIVED VAN DELIVERIES
They'll get more, but at a considerably reduced workrate. As RM top management keep repeating ad infinitum, 'We just want our people to work all the hours they are paid for'. No problem Mr Tolhurst, but i'll also do it exactly how your guidelines say I should.fishtank wrote:How's that flyer the'll get an extra 2 hrs out of you for a start.OnAFlyer wrote:Or one normal speed postie and a useless tosser who walks at 1mph and stops for a fag every 2 minutes.fishtank wrote:taxi4leighton wrote:well said TBT
it will cut the legs from the half-wits, who come in early, dont take breaks, use their cars, and run around like blue a**ed fleas.plus it will be handy when your needing a piss.
Or one half-wit t*sser who starts pressurising his colleague into going faster to keep up with him.![]()
There are plenty of issues, but personally if they can be gotten around I like the idea. My current walk has no toilet stops at all, so the back of a van would be handy. Also if you get someone you like working with you it will make the job a bit more bearable on a very heavy/wet day.
We've been told we'll all be going out at the same time and finishing at the same time - how's that going to work then, considering the difference in finish time between the fastest and slowest in my office is currently at least 3 hours, probably more. If it's 'we want everyone working to their time' then managers are going to have to deal with a serious amount of mail coming back.![]()

What about if you have some 'dead' walking on your walk? You can't ride on a HCT!dvbuk55 wrote:And you're the one who says an HCT will be slower - believe me I've seen tortoises move faster than a bloke delivering from a bike. Its all going to be dead walking with an HCT with a walk out and back.

Does an HCT have a pop up sun shade for the summer and how the hell are you going to push them round in 8 inches of snow or paths that are like glaciers.

No. You still have a conveyance vehicle which drop people off to deliver on foot. The trolleys could not be used on the deliveries because the area manager banned them as 'unsafe' in the weather.

The point is "on foot" will no longer be acceptable. The whole point of the new delivery method is to take the weight of the shoulder so what is the plan B if weather conditions prevent the use of HCTs and indeed Park&loop.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: CAR DERIVED VAN DELIVERIES
That is my point fishtank, how will the rounds get done in adverse weather conditions. Whilst a cycle is not the best mode of conveyance in snow and ice, at least you can still put your bag on them and have a fair chance of pushing the cycle round as it will push through snow being narrow wheeled. Try pushing an HCT with a heavier payload through snow. Impossible I would have thought. Maybe the people who first introduced the bicycle for delivery had a lot more foresight than those we have today. There has to be some reason why a bicycle has been the preferred method of delivery for many decades, and as we see in most walks of life today, things that have worked for many years are being cast to the wind and what has been put in place is a bloody shambles. I am all for progress, but not when there are alterior motives being played out, and the benefits cannot easily be indentified as being in our favour.

Re: CAR DERIVED VAN DELIVERIES
Bikes dont have weight on the shoulder issues do they? So why do they need to be scrapped?
The answer I hope willbe in the national agreemnt assuming we vote yes.
Untillwe vote yes by a majority its all nothing more than a set of proposals!!!!

Re: CAR DERIVED VAN DELIVERIES
Well at this stage BD it isn't even a set of proposals - at least none we have seen or I have seen. I really do think that unless this is a good deal it won't get the vote despite what the PEC recommend - it will hang on the rewards package basically, a bit worrying that there is now talk of a deal with the pension - strange because it was decoupled from the last agreement - I sincerely hope there isn't a bit of arm twisting on the horizon.Big Daz wrote:Bikes dont have weight on the shoulder issues do they? I want to see that pensions are safe regardless of how we vote, Im in aggrement with you on the arm twisting.
If that turns out to be the case , its a very crafty move by the CWU big wigs!!
A lot of s**t getting reday to hit lots of fans me thinks!!! Especially politically as the Tories will go beserk that pensions are being taken care off without the rest of the PSB being enacted.

Re: CAR DERIVED VAN DELIVERIES
Seems like the key point with parkloopy will be workload .
If RM try to pull their usual flanker and up workloads under cover of delivery method changes then the potential for chaos and unrest is huge.
If however they accept the need for reasonable workloads and correctly factor in the proper amount of time for increased packet deliveries, and IF son of Pegasus is done in a realistic and sensible fashion then 4hr deliveries should be smaller than many of the walks we do now.
Farewell to the bodge it and scarper merchants
