Industrial relations within the Southport D.O !!

The concerns expressed in parliment seemed to focus a lot around a lack of fair and consistent application of the cycle helmet and high vis non compliance procedure.

Yet another in a long line of examples of why industrial relations are so bad.

Dr Pugh told the House: “It would be quite easy to leap to the conclusion that there is an underlying strategy to find reasons to shed experienced staff, so as to cut costs, replace permanent staff with casual or reduce pension liabilities.

“I do not go for easy explanations, but I am not entirely certain what other explanations I should offer in this case.”

its ridicolous there the same at my office no one been suspended for it as of yet but there is a few of us on a warning. im on a warning for not having my hi vis on in the middle of summer when it was red hot! so we have to wear two layers in summer!

High vis when walking along with a HCT will not be needed. My understanding is it is for those who go on to the public highway.

Didn't think RM could get any worse but there has been talk that with this park and loop coming in, our office would be closed and we would be moved into Southports office. Please God help me get a new job before this happens.

My objection is that there is no room for error. I know the postie that was caught on his way to work without his cycle helmet, it was a genuine error. Now that error will stay on his record for the rest of his service. If it happens again - suspended.
Agreed that the rule exists but, the problem in this office is that there is only 1 manager enforcing it. I see posties round southport every day without helmets on, yet they don't get a warning...how can this be??
How crap must the old dear feel that shes cost someone their job...what happened to customer service?? Its all coming down to stats and £ signs.
Lastly, this same manager failed to send out a whole round prior to Xmas and this same manager wins an award?
I agree to the post where someone mentioned strike action but the lads are running scared - when 1 lad was suspended, 3 of the witnesses where then also suspended within a few months - witch hunt?? Maybe..... The lads are all being watched and someone else said to me, if you watch someone long enough they will make an error, its human nature and no-one is perfect.
I've also had 1 lad say to me, he daren't lift his head above the parapet. Unfortunately the attitude is, keep your head down and get the job done.

Its even more important for everybody to stick together, otherwise you will be picked off one by one, death by a thousand cuts.

Only a ballot will stop this harassment also if everybody puts in a grievance against this manager, it will throw the spanners into the works, united you will stand or divided you will fall , is never a truer words spoken.

The only agreement on cycle helmets which Royal Fail and their friends in the CWU have states that staff can ride to and from work without the helmet but that they must wear it when cycling to and from their delivery and for cycling around their delivery. Check that out with your H&S Rep, who should have a copy.

If that was the case and he was in his own time traveling to his place of work without his cycle helmet on it should and cannot result in any warning or dismissal and therefore he should take this to tribunal or and employment solicitor at once and get all relevant witnesses!.

The last section in Para 3 is one of several which could be used. Bear in mind there is no other agreement on cycle helmets apart from this one. Royal Fail should be concerned that their 'managers' are unaware of national agreements.
