Maybe a history lesson might help. Household deliverys now D2D came about in if I remember around 1982 , the idea was to save the second deliverys . You were supposed to take 20% a day after a couple of years that fell by the wayside and they became part of your first delivery . The payment to me has always been low for them and to me never seemed worth the hassle

Found an interesting page about marketing :crazy: :cool that I don't think Royal Mail have read: http://www.m8connect.com/index.php?opti ... Itemid=142" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Four costly misconceptions about leaflet distribution

2) Having your leaflets delivered with four or five other mail items saves money

Some distribution companies offer you a slightly reduced price if they put your leaflet through with four or five other flyers. Research has shown that whilst the addition of one other flyer makes no real measurable difference to the overall response rate, when you add as many as three or four other flyers to your own flyer the response rate decreases significantly. This will often mean that overall your profit margin will be reduced.

Slag the CWU off as much as you want, but to get the infamous D2D agreement in the 1st place has to be their greatest triumph, and should go down in history as ours unions greatest moment.I know Leighton was gobsmacked with it.

Yes most of us fecking hate them, but some of you are earning £1500 a year extra because of them,i earn £1k!! extra!!

For every D2D i prep wastes time AND i get paid extra for it,i mean, come on.
Bring them on i say.

And as for the tree huggers, purleaseeeee

Awaits mass desertion of the site. :nervous
lol :left: this sounds dead snotty but i don't need the extra money and I don't want it! I don't think it's worth the hassle either and would rather opt out. shouldn't I have a choice whether or not I take them? why doesn't someone desperate for the dosh take mine? nope - apparently no-one wants to do them that much. if D2D are not included in my basic pay/overtime then where's the fuss in getting someone else to sign for them and therefore get paid for them? ok, so they are treated as mail but they are not technically mail - no-one is going to ring up and complain they didn't get their free coupons/insurance offer. I can see both points of this argument and yes my judgement is probably clouded by my hating D2Ds but at the same time I don't think we should be bullied into doing them if it is an additional part of the job, like overtime - if you don't do overtime you don't get paid for it, simple as. if you don't do D2D it's not just that you don't get paid for it you get bollocked and threatened. like overtime if you don't want to do it you shouldn't be pressured into doing it. I suppose i am missing the point here (yes i suppose they are bad for the environment but there's an umbrella term for that - being a human being and consumer) but just putting in my thruppence ...

But did you read 1,3 and 4 :Very Happy
Leaflets that are delivered inside a newspaper or magazine are often thrown straight in the bin without the paper even being opened.
The reality of leaflet distribution is that the quality of service between different distribution companies varies tremendously. At one end of the spectrum you will find responsible, reliable and trustworthy companies who will provide an excellent service(US), and at the other end of the spectrum you will have companies whose only concern is to take your money and bin your flyers...
A good leaflet distribution company should also have considerable expertise in advising businesses on the best demographic areas to drop their leaflets. It is certainly also worth mentioning that if your distribution company is a local company with local knowledge(US again) you will hopefully get much better assistance and advice than if the head office is 200 miles away!
:cool

"Leaflets that are delivered inside a newspaper or magazine are often thrown straight in the bin without the paper even being opened."

Our local 'freebie' newspaper used to bundle them inside, up to 6 or 7 some weeks. Now they deliver the paper on one day and the leaflets the following day.

The local Tesco now has a bin next to the magazine racks into which you can put leaflets from the magazines, so you don't even have to take them home with you :Applause

I do not have enough time to deliver the mail, let alone the D2D crap. Postman it might be OK living in your full time utopia but what about people on delivery only contracts that are FORCED to take them out with the live mail, parcels, specials, and tracked. Yep working from the actual D2D boxs because they were not prepped and you work with another driver on park and loop!

There is simply not enough time in the day! No one ever puts them in with the mail, you'll have to sort them before you go out - your driver will have buggered off, you'll have to cut off and then management would hound you every day of your working life. Another Royal Mail stress to add to the numbers, and you want to add to the workload further?

I would love to earn "1K a year extra" as you proudly state but am sick and tired of the constant s**t from clueless managers out to sack me because I am unable to do the impossible.

You want to do them fine! But you have almost twice as much time to do them don't you. Well I don't.
if you don't do overtime you don't get paid for it, simple as. if you don't do D2D it's not just that you don't get paid for it you get bollocked and threatened.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Whooooo Hooooooo that's even better!! :dance

Sorry about the smilies,i just love them,anyways...

You've just hit the fecking nail on the fecking head!!

Firstly i practice what i preach on here,i would never give advice out that i wouldn't follow myself.

Soon we will have a couple of part timers at my office, now what do you think we at my place and especially me are going to do if we had a scenario like yours,it would get sorted.
It wouldn't last long trust me,regardless of the fact i'm from (strong)london, that is not the issue here, time and time again i ask the question in hundreds of threads, where's the f***ing rep.

Why isn't s**t like this sorted ffs,it aint hard when the union get involved.

Your walks too big,get it sorted or cut off,no ones prepped anything, hey tough prep it and cut off, can't do D2D's in time, tough let the manager sort it out after you cut off.
If you're getting bollocked and threatened report it.
Yes there are piss taking posties about we know that, but the part time shite that is happening is a joke.

You and others on here need to be strong, you need the office to stick together, safety in numbers.

I realise it's bad out there,i read it every day, but,if people don't stick together and reps get a move on,it will only get worse, not better.

To be fair the majority of local reps,POSTMAN are doing all they can to stem the tidal wave of bullying and harrasment that is still rife within this business despite
this "interim agreement".
When you say "FFS where is your rep" he/she is usually dealing with the other 4 or 5 cases of real or percieved B&H that day has brought him/her or the 3 or 4 attendance cases outstanding or maybe he/she is trying to fit in the 8 hours of RM work they also have to squeeze in there too.

Unfortunately once you go above the level of local rep then your statement has a truer ring to it at least in my area of the country.
Maybe "FFS where's your branch, division or HQ" would be a more accurate statement.

BTW do you realise how alien a statement like "Soon we will have a couple of part timers at my office" sounds to the majority of the membership.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

For all kinds of different reasons a number of workmates in this thread are OK doing D2Ds, but some of us aren't. Roy Mayall would like top see them banned altogether and my personal sentiments are with him. However, I think that's an ideal that - obviously from their comments - not all workmates would go along with. But aren't there enough of us to start a campaign to get RM to at least give each one of us the choice to opt in or out - for whatever personal reasons? How do we do this? How do we start an effective campaign to get heard?

Alternatively, it is possible that RM has no legal right to make us deliver D2Ds. (Does anyone know a lawyer they can ask?) In my case they're paying me/making me do something that goes against my conscience re the environment. Isn't that a human rights isssue?
