Re: Mail Volume figures put to the test and failed!!
The staff in our MC said it aint our job to book traffic and if it aint right tuff, never mind i can see why they are a bit miffed as the MC is going so they don't care,i do know that they are checking ours tomorrow as they did a count on mail and found that the mail is not right there is a bit more than they have been led to believe!there is a 10% difference on mec mail and what is turning up in the office,im sure they will sort some thing out it wont suit us,we are expecting the management to lie about it as they always do.

Unfortunately though the MC staff seem to be literate they seem to have a problem with numeracy once they've run out of toes.Tman wrote:Tman will say the same as he's always said, namely RM traffic figures don't come from DOs, but from mail processed through MCs, and whatever figure someone guesstimates is being sent to Much Halfwits-in-the-Marshes DO means nothing as that mail has already been counted.DGP1 wrote:Oh, I can't wait to see what Tman says about this, probably that everybody is wrong because he's seen the figures from RM![]()

The problem being Tman, is we did an audit in our DO under the supervision of the DOM and area CWU rep. It turns out that we ARE getting more mail than our MC figures suggest. Now we know that Royal Mail will not act on these results as they would have to increase our office budget ......and that just aint going to happen. Our DOM's solution ? ....you did it yesterday, you can do it tomorrow ....Tman wrote:Tman will say the same as he's always said, namely RM traffic figures don't come from DOs, but from mail processed through MCs, and whatever figure someone guesstimates is being sent to Much Halfwits-in-the-Marshes DO means nothing as that mail has already been counted.DGP1 wrote:Oh, I can't wait to see what Tman says about this, probably that everybody is wrong because he's seen the figures from RM![]()

Quite right too. Bless you axey but management I'm not (if you care to trawl back). However you seem to assume that anyone who disagrees with your point of view must be a manager. That demonstrates not only a small mind but clearly someone left continually on the sidelines. Can't help you on that one but you might try grasping the concept that not everyone at Royal Mail failed their 11+

That indeed seems to be the case, although I hear they're teaching the "five-bar gate" system to the loading bay staff as a way of getting around this particular problem.Unfortunately though the MC staff seem to be literate they seem to have a problem with numeracy once they've run out of toes.![]()

Re: Mail Volume figures put to the test and failed!!
We have agreed to traffic counts in N1 Islington and Wandsworth SW18.
Work which is recorded by mist is accurate it is tested on a regular basis. Mist records all traffic which is run through the mech.
Now the remainder of the work we have jointly audited a number of boxes or yorkes and performed a manual count and the IPKs on all different streams have under estimated traffic.
We now have to decide to perform a total count to ensure these random counts one box in seven are consistant.
Why we have to do this is that some work has already been long coded by the machines and so therefore has already been counted. Other anomalies is that whilst we count a box of mail and find that the Items per killo is off , we cant them simply replace our new Items per killo and types that by the number of boxes to get a new traffic figure as some of the boxes we recieve are half full.
The other factor is that your missort retirival is sometimes not counted in your traffic figures and there you need to ensure it is.
So we are due to meet senior management where we are now confident that work which is not machineable and therefore has not been through the mist system is out.
The level of that underestimation will require a full traffic audit , anyone who used to be involved in this exercise under the old WLA system will know that this is major task and wll require every box of mail and every york to be counted.
My own view is that years ago when we used perform WLA is that we used to under estimate traffic, how many times did we say a jumbo was full when in reality it was at best half full.
When Royal Mail change to the mist system and introduced delivery re -engineering they did so because they thought we were over stating by 17%.
So in reality Royal Mail when Royal Mail used the Mist system it show traffic as significantly less and they used that to spin the fact that traffic had declined when in reality due to us over estimating the WLA system it was never there in the first place.

So when RM learn to count our DO will get an increase in resources to cope with the overnight 30% growth in traffic
