Thousands of homes in the West Midlands are to receive a testing kit to check for the sexually-transmitted disease chlamydia.

Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust said it would post kits to 25,000 people in the city aged 18 to 24.

It said more than 9% of young people in Wolverhampton had genital chlamydia, which if left untreated can lead to infertility.

In 2009 only 5% of people offered the chlamydia test had taken it, it added.

Unmarked envelope

Chlamydia commonly has no symptoms, but left untreated can lead to infertility, long-term pelvic pain and other serious health problems, the trust said.

If detected early, the infection can be treated with a course of antibiotics, it added.

The kit arrives in an unmarked envelope and allows people to provide a urine sample at home which they can send off for analysis in a free-post envelope.

The results will be sent to them shortly after in confidence.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
