Let's praise the postmen who beat the weather

WE have had many praises for the buses in the Courier – and rightly so.

But can we now give a very big thank you for our local postmen, who have been trudging without fail to our letter- boxes every day?

We used to have more severe winters many years ago and everyone would be out clearing the paths for the deliverymen. So where has all the goodwill gone or is it now each man for himself?

Perhaps people may start to think differently when there are many broken limbs and then they can't get out at all. So let us hope things will alter in future

I also think that a container at the end of the side roads would help a lot. We do not seem to have any salt and grit containers in our area.

APPRECIATION and thanks should be given to Shropshire Council and its team of men who have worked so hard, under very difficult circumstances, to keep our roads as clear as possible.

Also to our postmen – very often having to abandon their vans – who have nearly always delivered the mail.

And to many people who have helped elderly neighbours with their shopping; or just to have checked if they have needed anything.

There have been, in my opinion, too many people who have found fault in what is only a temporary inconvenience with the winter weather. And there will be many who can well recall far worse past winters.

I am, however, disgusted by whoever drove around this area, and emptied the grit bins into their trailer.

I am amazed that people have telephoned our local newsagents on Clee Hill to ask why their newspapers have not been delivered.

We should enjoy this weather as far as possible.

Children have had a wonderful time playing in the snow. It has been a delight to walk around marvelling at the wonderful scenery with very little traffic on the lanes.

Most of us have the luxury of central heating and thanks to good forecasting were able to make sure we were well stocked up with provisions.

A big round of applause

In light of the letters congratulating newspaper delivery boys and girls during the bad weather, I would like to extend a huge thanks to the milkman, postman and to the volunteer hospital drivers who managed to get me to hospital and back three times a week.

The unpaid drivers arrived punctually at 6am – driving through ice and snow – and got me back home after treatment.
They deserve a big round of applause as does the nurse in the renal unit who walked an hour and a half to work and an hour and a half back.
