I have a sign on my door saying No Junk Mail......etc. Yet as a postman, delivering D2Ds,
A postie with a "no junk mail" sign on his own door? What's that current cliche on here? "You couldn't make it up"
"Roy Mayall"]At last, someone who agrees with me on this. Junk mail is anything that people do not ask for and which goes straight into the bin. There are a number of euphemisms for it: "unsolicited mail", "unaddressed mail", "d2d", "household" and one I heard on radio 4 this week, "discretionary mail". It's all rubbish and it should be illegal, and whatever Royal Mail or the union say about it, a mail company that relies on it for their profit is failing in its business. We should be starting a campaign to have it banned. If you don't know the name of a person living in a house you shouldn't be shovelling mail through their letterbox. Period. The union should be fighting for a proper living wage for its members without the need to fall back upon this antisocial and environmentally damaging trade.
Poor old Roy. He must live in a perfectly balanced and ordered world for a few sheets of paper through his letter box to cause sooo much personal anguish. Good job he hasn't got anything important to fret over...

You're missing the point. It's not the ‘few sheets of paper through his letter box’ that is causing the anguish. It's the few sheets through everyone’s letterboxes that amounts to tons and tons of pure waste, day after day. Do you look at and perhaps even read the stuff? Does anyone?

But "everyone" isn't whinging about it, Roy is.
So tons of paper (D2Ds) go to recycling every day, so what? Even added together, they wouldn't make one newspaper per household, and yet no-one is suggesting they should be banned......
I agree with Roy Mayall that we should be paid a decent living wage without the need for subsidising our wage by way of D2D payments. However many companies are reliant on economical ways of attracting new business, particularly during recessionary times, and do not have the budgets for t/v advertising, newspaper ads etc. Flyers are obviously a cheap and effective way of producing business. To 90% of the doors mailed, these will seem an annoyance, but obviously some percentage of houses and I am assuming around 10% , will follow up on this form of advertising. Royal Mail are paid a lot more for this business than they pass on to us. We should not be prepared to ditch the payments we do receive, unless there is a substantial increase in our basic hourly rate to compensate for the amount of work and heavier loads that only can be envisaged if the maximum of 3 items is removed. I think we should be looking at an extra £1.25p per hour on average to cover dealing with 5 items per week on a full time contract. Before everyone starts shouting I am not abdicating that we should agree to the abolition of the 3 items per week, because I also hate delivering them, especially when its wet and its like throwing paper mache through the door. However we do have to be realistic and acknowledge that they are a big earner for the business.
You know we get the press on don't ya,and theres a new one on looking for fresh meat,i can just see the headlines now 'Postal workers want junk mail banned!'
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

How many people would that of helped?
Depends if you consider people getting into debt a good thing or not?
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Bang on, and Postman! Has someone hijacked your account?
Oh and T-Man? I always know I am right when you have an opposing view to my own!
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one
D2D is work, nothing more nothing less.
Personally i hate it but that is neither here nor there.
About 90% of the mail you stick through someone's door is unwelcome but it's not for us to decide what's important and what's not.
Who reads their sky mag.who actually needs that matalan leaflet who even gives their bills more than a cursory glance.
If we keep this up we could talk ourselves out of a job.
And as for the eviromental issue.
Go out to your recycling bin and see how much of it actually came through your front door.
And how much came from your local supermarket?
How many Tesco employees give a sh1t about that?
I know in our office we're allowed to REFUSE to hand out the BNP Election material.. So would that count as Willful Delay? Would you be hauled up for not doing d2d's even if you don't take the money for delivering them??? Anyway d2d's how many POSTIE's have been hit with this 1 liner - ' You're just a middle-man these go straight into the bin!! ' ??? heard that Gawd knows how many times...
