Saturday Feck'n Deliveries

That may well be the case Harry who knows.
If management or Postcomm decide to end saturday deliveries so be it.
but i won't vote to put someone on the dole for a long weekend.

Since SDD, every agreement reached by Crozier and the CWU has led to somebody, somewhere, being thrown to the scrapheap. After the next fiasco of a deal, any confidence I had of seeing out my working life in Royal Mail will evaporate.
I'm getting older, my health is all shot to buggery thanks to this job, and my union seems incapable of stemming this depressing tide.
But, I'm not alone in feeling this way, I could form several legions of postal workers who feel as I do, something has to be done to give us all a boost.

if it meant no compulsory redundancies
most offices are under-staffed anyway
im sure with natural wastage and evr, most offices could get there ok
we seem to manage without middle and senior managers
and paid union officials on saturdays

Instead of scrapping 1 in 6 posties, why not do something more pro-active, sensible and obvious ( yes, I see the flaw in my words ) - why not redesign all the walks, removing 1/6th from each, so everyone that has a walk now has a reduction in their workload ( although that can also mean room for housing developments ) and all the floaters also get a roughly equal sized walk of their own 5 days a week......I know that's all in cloud cuckoo land, if it happened everything Leighton, Crozier & Mandelson have moved towards will have been for nought ( oh it was a nice idea )

I'm aware of that Daz but at the end of the day it will be a management driven decision no matter who signs the paperwork.

Its interesting to see that some comments have been about shafting our work colleagues if we were to ask for a mon-fri delivery. In our office we are being shafted every day by the people who come in really early, rush round and use their cars on delivery, these are the people who have spoilt the job for the rest of us. They then whinge when there are no full time jobs for them to step into.Get real

What I find surprising is people calling for less work (five day weeks, no D2Ds etc) and thinking that those changes wouldn't matter and wouldn't affect thier pay and conditions.

Got to keep the six day deliveries because with the size of the walks I need a break mid-week. When I need to work 5 days before/after long weekend I'm totally f#cked so keep tha status quo.

Some actually like the system we have.

In a perfect ideal world ,it would be great to get rid of Saturdays,till job losses were mentioned and it affected the same people who were calling for no saturday.
But I dont think the people who call for no saturdays have given it any thought other than no work on Saturday.

Forget about job lossess for 1 minute.
Fact right here and now ,walks are going to be made bigger and most likley a large increase in Door TO doors very soon.
Fact Packets are increasing all the time
DSA mail alll the time.

Many Posties on Many days struggle to finnish on time now.

All the above is normal stuff monday to friday,now think about saturday,if we dontwork Saturdays the mail wont disappear,it will have to go on a Friday and Monday,
Now think what you deliver now on a Saturday, not what we use to ,do you really want to do all this extra work the rest of the week ,with Park and loop coming in.
Or will RM think of their workers and ensure they have a equal and acheivable work load all week and can rest Saturdays and PAY staff overtime on saturdays for deivering Specials and Packets ,and then O/T to staff to deliver mail to Companies that require mail on Saturdays.

Seems an ill thought out idea to me given our current working conditions,but I am opposed to working till 3 pm on Saturdays.

Why would a reduction to 5 deliveries automatically mean Saturday deliveries are cancelled? Saturdays are targetted now by businessess, today I had every house again and it happens repeatedly on Saturdays.

Purely from a mail volume point of view it would make more sense to cancel the lightest day, and that isn't Saturday anymore.
