And see those peeps running round like fools, lets see them do it with either a HCT or a golf trolley (bags will become obsolete). At 2.45 its head back to the office, the manager can sort the rest out in any way he so chooses.
I assume you are referring to the last scheduled letter delivery time of 14:00 in urban areas. If so then that is letters not packets, they can be delivered after this time. If RM is successful in its quest to increase this time to 15:00 then we could find ourselves delivering till after 16:00.

We started park and loop in June last year, dum said duties would be tried for six weeks we would then have an office re-pick,here we are eight months on no re-pick,yet ! All duties run over even on light days, some blokes break off, some book o/t and still break off, management are not concerned - just plod on tomorrow's another day.We have been informed of more changes from March this year.Their plan is for 25 "super sorters" to stand at frame and throw off dely, bag it up turn fillets over throw another dely off and bag it up to be delivered by p/timers.The drop bag packet frames are going, our packets will be sorted at Gatwick our distribution office and will be sent down bagged up for each dely.Start times also to change 7-am to be the earliest start time.

Well thats just daft. You still have to sort the packets into order. Theres bound to be missorts too...

If it aint broke, break it to save money.

Obviously Gatwick deserves the hours more than your D.O. :cuppa

So you think people should use thier own cars and fuel with third party insurance at best to save RM money and time?

Silly me, I was thinking the union was lookng out for our best interests :arrrghhh

The criterion is not whether it is a rural or urban area but whether you are within or without 1 mile of the delivery office. The idea is to get rid of bulk/parcel duties and to extend the delivery span from 3.5 to 4.5, which multiplied by 2 means an additional 2 hours on each P&L delivery - there is as far as I know nothing to extend the town (within a mile) delivery from 3.5 hence my advice to take a town walk, same money an hours less delivery.
So are you saying that the actual walking part of the deliveries stay at 3.5 but they are allocating each person in the van an extra hour to do the large parcels, specials, bulk calls and travelling from different loops?
In a nutshell - yes.
Thing is all posties work at different speeds one could be a flyer the other could be a plodder put them in a van you would have issues
Guess which one i am. :nana

several issues, is this solo or with a another Postie, now if you hate him/her, how are you going to have an amicable working relationship especially if he is a lazy get and tries to get you to do more or gets on at you for being too slow, what about those who have no driving licence, where will you park it ?, I'm not taking it home, I'll be fecked if I am going to responsible for a Van outside of my working hours and little space to park it in my street anyway.

Very optimistic about this so called "park and loop". It will probably work for some walks, but not others. Or it might not even work at all! I like how RM are being very environmentally friendly about using more vans on our roads  .

Have they thought about the winter we had where HCT are out of the question when it snows. I have done a few duties using a van, and sometimes a van can actually slow you down, not speed up things. Like everything else in RM, this has not been thought through and needs to be looked at more throughly before going ahead with such a preposterous idea.

It doesn't matter how well it works.
There will be no other option avaliable for duties more than 1 mile from the D.O.
So it will be made to work and that is the most frightening part of it all. :nervous

What kind of duties are we talking about here? All part time duties? In my office all full timers have a van already, no part timers have a van. Part timers do 'Town Walks'. I can't see any benefit of having a van apart from no drop boxes needed or drivers to drop off bags. There'd be room for larger packets, but where would the time come from? Assuming all mail was sequenced, I reckon I'd make 1/2 an hour, thats one hour for two sharing, hardly enough to do all packets and specials, not to mention extra streets that will no doubt be added.

Surely it's not going to be all duties. What about walks that are isolated? A couple of the walks I cover are the only part time walks in that town/village. Am I going to share a van, dive to one walk, do half each, drive to another and do half each?

I suppose it'll do away with my 20 - 30 mins walks back to the office, or 30 min waits for a bus...

dvbuk55 wrote:The word is right, I can't tell from a post where you are based, but it is the model to convert to P&L outside of 1 mile from the delivery office and to HCT within a mile. However, I don't believe that this will be rolled out all at once and so for most on here there will be a bedding in period during which time it may well be all change.
We've also been told this in WTL sessions recently and have had planners in the office, so it looks like they're really pushing ahead with it.
