The criterion is not whether it is a rural or urban area but whether you are within or without 1 mile of the delivery office. The idea is to get rid of bulk/parcel duties and to extend the delivery span from 3.5 to 4.5, which multiplied by 2 means an additional 2 hours on each P&L delivery - there is as far as I know nothing to extend the town (within a mile) delivery from 3.5 hence my advice to take a town walk, same money an hours less delivery.
So are you saying that the actual walking part of the deliveries stay at 3.5 but they are allocating each person in the van an extra hour to do the large parcels, specials, bulk calls and travelling from different loops?
In a nutshell - yes.
Thing is all posties work at different speeds one could be a flyer the other could be a plodder put them in a van you would have issues

Sorry folks but that is b0llox unless your 3.5hr delivery span can accomodate an extra 120/130 calls because that's what you get. (currently working/it's not working a 4hr 15min delivery)

Got to say that sounds more realistic, having been a driver doing parcels, specials etc. I could easily take the van while my "mate" delivers mail and do all the specials, parcels etc. for both deliveries in an hour (except at christmas) so couldn't see them allocating 2 hours for this to be done!

Cant see how the P&L can corperate Specials seeing as they need to be all delivered and confirmed by 1pm and the finish time will be 3.

Well they have to in my office becuase at the moment all specials(except rurals and city centre deliveries) go out with bag drop/parcel drivers - which are all being removed when the vans come in. The driver of the van will probably be told to deliver specials 1st while the other person delivers mail which is the way I would personaly work it on my delivery - i'd do all specials, big parcels, recordeds etc. so the other person doesn't have these slowing them down.

No doub't we will be told to deliver the specials on time before the normal mail regardless of where we are on delivery, unless they change the spec of the specials ??

Ok, so add another half hour fannying around with those specials, before a letter is even posted.

All this mail come 2.45 is beginning to pile up, not to mention the large parcels.

I think I'm actually going to enjoy this.

The only sticking point may be any new "performance standards" in this agreement.
I'm not sure you may enjoy that so much.

most posts here against P&L. however anything that stops posties using their cars, must have some attraction. the stumbling block, i feel is to take walks that can easily be delivered in 3hrs 30mins and trial them as P&L. rather than letting RM use it as an excuse to add extra calls on .

Most posts are not against the idea of P&L but the half-assed implementation of P&L which will surely follow.
That is experience talking. :cuppa

think you will find that in some offices that already van share they are using thier own cars, and rushing about like tits to finish, also if you think i would lug around the first, say 1hr of a delivery while some fat arse dicks about delivering specials and large parcels then he comes back and joins me for the rest you can forget it.
