Junk mail increasing as firms emerge from recession

Junk mail increasing as firms emerge from belt-tightening recession

he amount of junk mail is on the rise in another sign that the recession is easing.

Junk mail took a major hit as the credit crunch took hold but householders who enjoyed the respite should prepare for the deluge to return.

Royal Mail rival UK mail said the increase in junk mail - also known as discretionary or marketing mail - had helped it to post better-than-expected profits.

Sales for the three months to December 31 were four per cent up on the same time last year, also helped by an increase in general mail and parcels.

A spokesman for the firm said that while junk mail did not make up a large proportion of its business, the improvement was a welcome trend.

The firm, which has large-scale clients such as banks and utility firms, relies up on Royal Mail staff for deliveries despite being a competitor.

It benefited from the Royal Mail strike action, as people turned away from the national postal service to specialist delivery firms.

UK Mail 'definitely saw a pick up in volume' in the period, the spokesman said.

The Birmingham-based firm said it now expects its annual profits to beat expectations.

Their is conflicting figures here,if UK Mail are reporting a 4 per cent increase in junk mail, delivered the final mile by RM ,

How come RM are still reporting a decrease in mail?

How much longer can this lie continue regarding decreasing mail volumes!

Yes decreasing stamped and franked mail no doubt no questions!
But substantial increase in DSA mail !

I'm going to assume its a decrease in mail going through the machines but not really a decrease in mail to the Postman on the beat. Plus RM figures are usually forecasts and the could still be wrong. Example 10% decrease every year could be lie one year which maybe a 2% decrease.

Junk mail increasing? No sh*t, Sherlock  & BTW, UK Mail is a "specialist delivery service" as opposed to us "the national postal service" - maybe if I crap on Crozier's desk, and demand he removes it to a toilet, that would make me a "specialist excrement provision service"?
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?
