EDITOR – Regarding your latest story on the delay of post being delivered in this region, on Saturday (January 16) I received a letter from Lincoln County Hospital with my outpatient appointment.
This letter was dated January7 and requested I attend the clinic on Wednesday, January 13.

I am a cancer patient and this appointment was arranged as a follow-up to an operation I had the previous week and was regarding vital further treatment for

my condition.

If I had waited for the letter to arrive I would have missed this appointment and faced a further delay in my treatment, which in reality could have been life threatening.

Luckily the hospital rang to confirm my appointment, presumably because this happens on a regular basis.

I telephoned the sorting office on the day I finally received the letter and was told the official line was that post was being delayed because of the snow.

I appreciate this but for a letter to take over a week to arrive from Lincoln is disgusting.

I also mentioned that I had not received mail all week and not seen a postman for two or three days.

The person on the phone finally admitted that they had staffing problems and I was correct, no post had been delivered on several days in my area that week.

He then went to check and told me that there was another letter awaiting delivery in the sorting office that would be sent out on Monday.

On asking why it had not been delivered that day he replied that the pigeon hole was full and my letter was put into the Monday delivery hole.

He suggested that I do what a lot of customers are now doing – collect my mail from the sorting office. That just left me speechless!

On the one occasion mail was delivered to me last week, the letter was left hanging out of my letterbox for anyone to see. I had been away all day – at the hospital – so that letter had been left there most of the day.

The letter was from my bank and included all my details, account number, sort code, transactions etc and was marked private. There is a lot of talk of identity fraud in the UK and this was a perfect opportunity for someone to collect all my details.

I have complained on several occasions that this was not acceptable but was again told perhaps it would be best for me to collect my mail from the sorting office.

This is a substandard service and totally unacceptable. The quicker the service is given to another company the better as it couldn't possibly be as bad as the service we are receiving now.

Perhaps the service can't get worse under new ownership, but you will be paying a hell of a lot more for the privilage.
