Police hunt thief who stole postman's trolley and letters as he delivered mail in Blackburn.

The residents of a West Lothian town could miss out on vital mail after a thief made off with a postman's trolley.

The Royal Mail caddy and two sacks of letters were stolen on Saturday while the postman was delivering on Blackburn's Bathgate Road.

The suspect ran away towards the Mill Shopping Centre. The trolley was found there a short time later but the contents had been taken.

A police investigation has been launched and Inspector Michaela Kerr said: “Crimes such as this carry many victims - people in the community who will not receive their mail which will result in inconvenience and unnecessary distress.

"This is particularly galling when we know most of the letters will be of no value to the suspect and will end up being discarded.

“I am sure the local community will be keen to support the police in their efforts to identify the culprit and bring him to justice.”

The thief was around 20-years-old, 5ft 8ins tall and slim. He was wearing tracksuit bottoms and a black long-sleeved top with white writing.
