But, here's a good 'un: You can report AOD to HSE/Riddor if you're off for 3 or more days, or...if you're regular duties are altered to allow for an injury.
So, DOM's reply: "As you're a relief, you don't have "regular" duties, so this rule shouldn't count." ???????????????????
This means that ALL the newer/older reliefs would come under this DOM's understanding/interpretation of the rules. On Plant DOM that is!

I'm amazed that many other DOM's aren't off sick with bad backs...due to all the goalposts they move!!!

Anyway, hoping to put the Erica report in asap.
Firstly I do not know how long your current/present DOM has been in situ, but secondly and more importantly, what I do know is that as far back as 2006 and with particular regards to ERICA both Royal Mail Group and CWU were firmly committed to working jointly on this project (meaning ERICA) and that Royal Mail agreed to pro-actively involve our safety representatives (CWU ASR's) in the new process and procedure. To that end all ASR's were to have been included in the ERICA Management training programme and a number of ASR's would be involved in the forthcoming (referring to 2006) "Usability" testing, prior to roll-out.

From that statement one concluded that within Royal Mail there existed (since late 2006) an ERICA Management training programme and that all CWU ASR's were also to be trained in it's use. Therefore, one would have expected that any DOM in charge of an office prior to or since 2006 would have been fully trained in it's usage in line with the said ERICA Management training programme.

Can't confirm whether DOM has/hasn't had the necessary training for utilising Erica, but this was the general feeling within the office.
Was also told someone being brought in from other office this week to attend to it/record it etc.

Still awaiting the opportunity to record it, 13 DAYS after the event, so this falls outside the 10 days that it should have been reported to HSE/Riddor.
But...I assume this will be "overlooked", or paid little attention to. This then makes the RM yearly accident records look very rosey indeed!

So, I hope that as I'm based internally tomorrrow, this will be the DAY! Failing that, I'll have to "remind" those in Power/Authority that it HAS to be recorded.
as they have Responibility/Accountabilty too. Comes with the territory, I'm afraid...

They think it's all over...It is now!!!! Yeah!!!
Finally got a "result" with Manager recording AOD on the Erica, 13 days after initial request to record it.
Wonder what the delaying tactics have achieved: Nothing, zip, zilch, nada, sweet FA...NUFFIN at all.
Persistance pays off, but shouldn't have to bang your head against a brick wall, when it is our "right."

They are in breach of this regulation then, if it has taken them that long to report this.

Reporting accidents and ill health at work is a legal requirement . The information enables the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and local authorities, to identify where and how risks arise, and to investigate serious accidents. We can then help you and provide advice on how to reduce injury, and ill health in your workplace.

Cases of over-three day injuries must be notified within ten days of the incident occurring.
Surely you could log a complaint then about the actions (or rather the inactions!) of your DO management then? Asking why/how it took so long for them to report this to the HSE. Imagine if this was a really serious incident, would they have taken this long to do this. I bet not. Their attitude smacks of indifference and irresponsibility.
If this was me then I'd put in a complaint and cite the above, ie negligence on the part of RM!

Alas this particular AOD did not involve anytime of work so it would appear they are not in breach. However, 13 days before an ERICA incident report is made :no no :no no :no no

As mentioned, HSE/Riddor say's , "if you have to alter your normal working patterns" was brought up yesterday, but DOM thought this wasn't valid.
So ANY part timers could have this thrown in their face, as we don't have regular duties. Lowering of RM's Riddors as consequence.
( Rearrange these words to find a well known saying: goalpost - moving - the...)

Anyway, Consultant/Registrar today, after X Rays, tests, being rag-dolled about, suggested it is Psoas Tendinitis. ( Sounds like a Greek Island!)
Also recommended Ultrasound investigation and Cortisone injection in 4 weeks. 16 months after initial AOD, which has probably been partial cause of the recent one, I just want to be pain free.
So...seeing GP asap to see if I can get something "in writing" to lessen 3 - 4 hr walks I'm being expected to do!
