Not getting any overtime at all :(

Post by xcessive »

Hi

I am contracted 14 hours which isnt too bad but normally i tend to do around 5-10 hours overtime (mostly SA) to gte a bit more money.
This normally gets me about £200 per week which is great for me, im happy with that wage seeing as im a full time student.

However, for the most of June i had exams so didnt do any overtime for the 4 weeks of June. Since then i have A listed and only received 6 hours overtime over the past 3 weeks! Those 6 hours i worked last week.

This week i got 0 hours through A listing and everyday i have used the B list and again received 0 hours overtime!
This week i will lose out on 4 hours due to the strike as well!

I'm assuming this is the managements way to get back at the workers but not handing out overtime. I have also noticed that in the mail centre where i work casuals will often work all day then more will come in and work at night. These little sh*ts are nicking our overtime!

I knew that going on strike would cause hostility between management and workers but surely what the management are doing is against CWU guidelines.
Shouldn't us Posties be given overtime if there are uncovered hours then if there are hours uncovered (e.g. during peak traffic hours) a few casuals should be bought in.

It is becoming hard for me to survive on very little money and now that i have the oppotunity to work full time (summer hols) i am not being given any hours!

What can i do?
Am i in the same boat as everyone else regarding overtime?

Is there anyone i can speak to so i can get some overtime? CWU rep? Book room manager?

Thanks in advance

our ot has dropped right off, mainly due to employing two new staff whereas i used to double up everyday i am lucky to get 1 a week. i have had to start delivering our local free paper just to earn a little bit extra. when the 6 am duties start my round will change so i lose the majority of my residentials, thus losing households which means i will lose about £600 a year.

Several months ago I decided to stop doing OT as I did'nt want to miss it when it was gone.
Several strike breakers in my office rely on OT so I'll be the one laughing when all the OT and SA is stopped. :funneh :funneh :funneh

Don't give the "more commercially minded" senior managers ideas!. You delivery boys are already loaded like pack horses so we can all do without all these "bright ideas".

I understand that a lot of the members on this forum work on deliveries and so are contracted to work 6 days per weeks (i assume all delivery staff have this type of contract) and so you have a 35-40 hour week (im guessing again!)
I'm stuck on a part time contract working evenings in a mail centre sorting mail. I depend on overtime to get my money!

On Monday ill have a word with my union rep and see what he says but i dont think he will be able to do much :(

I work in the same office as you Excessive, since the strike I've noticed that the A list has been suspended some days and a lot of agency workers have been bought in. I guess this is the only way managers can get there own back at the moment, they don't want you making your money up to cover strike days.
