A postman was punched in the face and head-butted as he collected mail at a post office.

The attack took place at Gabalfa Avenue in Gabalfa, Cardiff, at 1500 GMT on Wednesday.

A snowball was thrown at his back and, when he turned round, he was punched several times and butted, resulting in a broken nose.

Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of assault and been released on bail.

Pc Nathan James, of the Fairwater neighbourhood policing team, said: "Assaults on Royal Mail workers will not be tolerated.

"We're appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact us.

"The incident happened in front of the local Londis store, pharmacy and charity shop."

A Royal Mail spokesman said it was an unprovoked attack on a postman carrying out his duties.

"This was a particularly nasty incident, which resulted in the postman sustaining a fractured nose and cuts and bruises to his face," he said.

He added the postman was now recovering from the attack and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fairwater neighbourhood policing team on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The postman will probably get a letter from RM saying they want him back at work immediately.
No I'm not being paranoid, they really are out to get me.
