Don't try to pull a fast one and spin it out or they will have you.
Not intending to mate. I'm honest and hardworking.
packmule wrote:The only way they will look at a walk is if it continually goes over . So just start at right time, do not use your own car for delivery and finish at right time.
But surely if I don't use my own car. I've got no chance of finishing on time. How would I get back to the DO?

Yep. I agree.

That my friend is not your problem it is managements. They have provide transport to and from your delivery . YOU do not use your car even if you have the correct in insurance, there are threads on this subject on here, in the union room .

"You may not have heard the news but further to the case of the Woodford Green Postman, another near identical incident has occurred in Runcorn in Cheshire where a Postman was stopped by Police whilst using their private car on delivery. The Police found his RM and private motor insurance cover was not valid and it was also found that his car was without a current MOT which proves Managers are not undertaking safety checks.

The Runcorn Postman was heavily fined and had 6 points put on his driving licence as did the Woodford Green postman. "

The walk itself takes around 5 hours to complete and thats with me walking as fast as I can
If it takes 5 hours to walk, then I'd be complaining...seriously...5 hours on a P/T contract???

Btw - i think this a mole planted..spammer alert..RM dirty tactics trying to find out the general feeling now that their precious Xmas has finished

LOL. No mate. To be honest. I'm really getting sick of the whole setup. Why the hell did RM employ me on a P/T contract when it's not a part time job :arrrghhh

So I had a look in the union room. So RM have a duty to deliver you there and return you back at your proper finish time and that it should all be factored into the total walk time. I'm amazed and a little annoyed. My car had to go into the garage for a few days a couple of weeks ago and they duly got me out on the duty but I had to make my own arrangements to get back to the office :evil/mad

I'm a bit fecked off right now...

For the sake of your sanity just leave. Be dead funny to watch the whole sector implode if the entire workforce walked :chuckle

I sympathise with him there. Theres no pouching off in my DO, we have to return to the office. I've been left hanging round for up to an hour waiting for a lift back to the office, and often told by the PHG that the manager and conveyance driver have fecked off home and there is just no one there to pick me up.

Hello, first time poster here! I am a delivery postie with 16 years under the belt. My duty is a village, a road in a town and some flats. I have a van which only does 11 miles a day, its classed as a rural but the delivery is urban. My delivery span averages five hours a day. Yesterday after three hours sliding on black ice I returned to the office and told them I was too scared to complete my delivery. Now awaiting wilful delay interview. If I complain about the proportion of delivery in my full time day I get told they will reduce the hours to 30 if I want less work, but the delivery would be the same, someone else would prep it and bring it out for me to deliver onfoot . We have 8 union members in an office with 30+ staff. No officaial union rep, last office spokesperson gave up due to lack of interest in rest of oppressed workforce(Yep that was me!) Now tired depressed and worried about my job. Don't want to go off with stress, don't want to lose my job, love being a postie and part of this community but totally demoralized- any suggestions? ( And no I can't shoot the manager, though the dartboard has been taking a bashing where his picture is!)

That’s an interesting point, maybe it’s a new secret strategic employment plan, give new starters a nice long duty (previously done on a full time contract) but only pay them a part-time rate, the economics of it are heavily in favour of RM.

The further up the greasy RM pole you go it works the other way around; they work part time hours but are paid full time rates. It culminates right at the top where the pay is astronomical for the little work they do.

Still its got to be financed somehow.

You are going to need help from your branch with this.
Have you been officially threatened with wilful delay or are they just trying to pressure you into completion.
In my opinion they have NO CHANCE of making wilful delay stick under these circumstances
You and i know this is not a rural delivery but as long as they are classing it as such you will have difficulty reducing the outdoor element.
It may be better for your own sanity to use your seniority to change duties.
Of course that means someone else will face the same problems.
Offices with weak union support like yours will be hammered by RMs plans for 2010.
Then maybe the staff will wake up to the realities of what they are facing.
Unfortunately by then it may be too late.
I would like to know what CWU HQ plans to do nationally to protect offices like yours.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

These are the documents you want about cutting off.

I would suggest though that you advise the manager of the £30 charge you have to pay if you don't collect your child in time - he might not be aware and the OT you are paid won't cover this cost.

The agreed procedure as outlined in the "OVERRUNNING DELIVERIES OPG NOTIFICATION PROCEDURE - HOW TO FIX GUIDELINES - FOR DELIVERY UNITS - UK OPERATIONS" says
DELIVERY

3.1 PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT

a) Where an employee feels that on completion of preparation he/she may experience difficulty in completing his/her delivery within the authorised time allotted, he/she should approach his/her manager as soon as possible before setting out on delivery. It will be for the manager to discuss any problem and advise the employee what particular action should be taken.

b) When an individual has requested assistance on delivery, but the manager feels that assistance is not required, this decision along with the advice given to the employee will be recorded and associated with the daily traffic volume records. The employee can have access to this record and may ask to see it prior to commencement of his/her delivery. In addition to recording the employee’s request, the employee will be instructed to ring his/her local manager prior to a specified time or as soon as possible if full completion of delivery workload within the time allotted proves not to be possible.

3.2 AFTER COMMENCEMENT OF DELIVERY

a) If an individual is prevented from completing their delivery for any reason, it is essential that this is reported immediately either by returning to the office or by telephone (telephone costs will be refunded). A written record will be kept.

b) All employees should be informed of the local authorised arrangements, in writing, preferably in plastic card form if available.

!/ Some posties have been sacked for using their private vehicles.
2/Do you have the proper business on behalf of your employer, insurance cover for your vehicle and has your manager asked for copies of your insurance, mot, driving license etc, and confirmed to you in writing that you are covered to carry Royal Mail property in your vehicle under their insurance. If not you are leaving yourself open to prosecution, impoundment of your vehicle, and guess who will not support you in any way ?
