To get back to the office I have to rely on a nearby driver to take me back to the office. I'm expected to wait for him even if he hasnt completed his own duty. There is also nowhere to hide in bad whether and sleet is expected all day tomorrow and I am dreading it. Surely I can get the union involved?
Ok this is not ideal and i feel for your situation I assume you will finish before the driver (waiting for him) so why not get his mobile number and arrange him to pick you up. You could offer to help him finish then both go back At least you wont be standing about in the sleet etc.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........
I think we will be going out on delivery tomorrow after giving it a miss yesterday, we will be expected to take everything that was sorted up. I'm 100% sure management wheeled in stuff from the MC that is'nt due out yet so we will have even more than normal. I for one will be refusing to deliver to any property that is on a sloped driveway or has steps. I will also be finishing on time whether I have 1 bundle or 20 left. I fell over on the snow/ice exactly 1 year ago today which I'm still receiving medical treatment for and RM rewarded me with a Stage 3 reverted back to a 2, so put yourself first and if you think somewhere is too dangerous to deliver to take it back.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

How very helpful! Respect to all. Stay safe. p.s. how do you keep your chin up when its in the snow? Royal FAIL.
manager is responsible for H&S so insisist on a risk assessment with suitable experienced CWU member if no union or other representation.
Reducing bag weights is the most obvious solution alongside reduced delivery expectations ie half a walk in 3.5 hrs. H&S rep or area H&S rep in conjunction with CWU union rep can apply measures and reach compromises .
Mildred: Hey Johnny, what are you rebelling against?
Johnny: Whadda you got?
We got asked to go out but use our own judgement. If we didn't feel safe going out we could stay in and do sorting, I went out but was told not take any bag or bags over 10kg and to take it slow. As it happens my drop point is down a very poor road and the van driver didn't want to risk getting stuck so I had no bags other than the one I took out :/. Driver gave me his number and ran me and another postie back to the office. Got back at half 11, manager said thank you told us to warm up, have a coffee and take a break. Rather than go all the way back out to my walk which was 4 miles away with another bag DoM asked me if I wanted to take my road back home with me and deliver it. So I left at 12:20, got to my road at 13:00 and finished delivering at 13:50.
