NO, it’s not a scene from an expedition to the North Pole.
This was Shawfields at Cop Hill, Slaithwaite, on a bitterly cold afternoon this week.
And the man dwarfed by the cleared snow is Slaithwaite postman Jonny Haigh.
Mr Haigh, one of our Heroes of The Snows, has managed to complete his rounds every day throughout The Big Freeze despite appalling conditions.
“People have been delighted to see me. It has been really busy, especially in the snow, but I have managed to get through.
“The van is a 4x4 and if that cannot get through, then I walk.
“The days have been pretty long but the team at Slaithwaite has worked through.
“The roads around Cop Hill were cleared by a local farmer but in places the snow has drifted eight feet deep.
“We were really busy up to Christmas with online shopping orders and my customers on the rounds have been really appreciative.”
Mr Haigh, of Slaithwaite, is married to Natasha and the couple have two children, Judd and Willow. He has been a postman for 15 years.
