Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
I'm off at the moment, but there's around 6-7" of snow here and no postie came today. I doubt there will be a delivery tomorrow either, if I was at work I wouldn't do mine as any snow makes it almost impossible to get up there.

Do you you have to do that?Stormproof wrote:Do you have a Delivery Office closer to your home? Or can you just say dock my pay i'm not risking it.I really don't want to go to the local DO as they'll send me out on the worst round,as do most offices when some mug turns up to help.

A colleague of mine couldnt make it in because of the snow. He couldnt make it to his nearest DO either and they used a days annual leave. The manager went out later to check the roads around where he lives and ended up in a ditch

I've never been to my local DO although it's very near. I'd be no use to them, don't know the area at all well. How could they give you a walk to do, you'd need to be trained up (presumably)?pony wrote:Do you you have to do that?Stormproof wrote:Do you have a Delivery Office closer to your home? I think I'm better off just fighting through the snow to my office, which is ten miles away.

I think the limit is 3miles,with that it means that if you can't get to your office (if it's further than 3miles away)and there is one within 3 miles of your home,be it a MC or whatever then you should make your way there.pony wrote:Do you you have to do that?Stormproof wrote:Do you have a Delivery Office closer to your home? I'm guessing they are saying that you could walk it,also if you do,then i wouldn't worry what time you got there.
There should be a form to sign.
As for being sent out, chances are most offices won't be going out,but if you have to,you aint gonna do much are ya?

Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
When it snowed here before xmas, our office didn't go out. Then it went to ice which was even more lethal, and we didn't go out. It's just started snowing here again tonight, so I'm guessing we'll be tucked up in the office tommorrow sitting around after all the sorting is done. Thats for those who make it to work.

Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
my day off today, was supposed to come in and do some overtime, started driving I didn't get more than 1/2 mile and saw 2 accidents, nearly got stuck, slipping everywhere, so I turned round and got back to my house after some slipping and sliding, phoned in saying I am not coming in, tommorrow I think I will be walking to work, the office is 3 miles away, so it may take me about 1 hour or so to get there, I am NOT driving my car in these conditions.
I wonder if there will be anything to do once I get there ?

Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
The snow was mental in a certain North Yorkshire town today. Was probably 4-5 inches to a foot in some places. Town rounds all went out, rurals all went out (although the lino said they probably wouldn't get as far as the ring road; so why send them out then?!
) suburbans didn't because biking was virtually impossible. Got to 11am and about 3 rounds out of 15 got split between everyone. I ended up walking for an hour round trip to do 1 bag off my normal round, the rest was given to a couple of other lads.
My day off tomorrow but I haven't even started on my d2ds yet and I've got a pile of 50-odd lightbulbs to get through. Thursday is gonna be a joke.

Its really bad here too, going to be crazy delivering mail tomorrow, our managers will probably tell us not used our bikes tomorrow, which doesn't really help us, as they still expect us to deliver everything

Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
Went to work this morning, we had a about 4 inches of snow fall over night but it had stopped by the morning. Come 8am it started again, (and is still very heavy atm) DOM had a conference call at 9am and decided not to risk sending us out so we all set our walks into our frames and trudged off home in the snow.

Handed DOM my letter quoting the SWOP guidleines couldnt believe the response i got.
He agreed with everythink i was saying and all deliveries were suspended.
We prepped and sorted all mail through it in our fitting tidied up the office but the bar steward still kept us there near enough to our time Day off for tomorrow so good knows whats going happen not much came from M/C today either

Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
walked to work instead of driving, there was a meeting, everybody is to take out mail to where the Postie consider it safe, i.e. not hilly, with steps, or really slippery.
Not many Vans out I don't envy them, I walked to the start of my delivery instead of taking a Van out, it was too far, still had to watch the roads etc.
Be interesting to see if Deliveries is suspended tomorrow, if other NW Reps catch on MoNkEyBoY's post.
