Postman ditches car packed with Christmas cards in Bristol street

A car full of undelivered Christmas cards and parcels was abandoned in a Hanham street after a postman resigned.

The Ford Focus was parked in Footshill Road, Hanham, from December 22 until yesterday afternoon.

The postman who left it there apparently told residents he had locked himself out and was waiting for the motoring organisation the RAC.

That was more than a week ago, and he did not return.

Royal Mail has apologised to customers. A spokesman said: "After being alerted by a member of the public to a quantity of mail locked in a parked car, we challenged the postman responsible for the delivery.

"Attempts were made to gain access to the car but these unfortunately failed. The employee responsible has since abandoned his service with Royal Mail and despite attempts by the business and the police, we have been unable to contact him.

"We continue to liaise with the police on how the mail can be retrieved and delivered to customers as soon as possible.

"We would like to apologise to customers for the delay to this mail."

The car was removed yesterday afternoon.

Another reason why private cars on delivery should not be used.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I think I will beleive RM will stop allowing us to us cars when I see it .
Hearing that the number of car dreiveived vans to our office have now been cut unsure why ,but they will have to do something as many of the crew busses LDV(CRAP) are on their last legs and will not survive any longer,we dont use cars, sorry most of us dont still people who bend the rules.

If everybody used vans or bikes it would slash these type of things over night. But look at the cost to RM in terms of increased Veichle costs!
