Bank Holiday Credits??????????

Post by pompeyminky »

Hi All , ' First Post ' so here goes , I work in a mail centre and have done for quite a while ( 28 yrs service) , so i'm not , as you say " wet behind the ears " , and this has got to be the 1st time that i and many others have not only been shown the 'Shitty stick' but actually HIT with it !!!!!!!!! :lfo
I like , others, work a 4 nights a week pattern with Sunday and Monday off (others differ), and every time that a bank holiday occurs ( provided i'm not on leave) i'm told that i have to attend for work on the Tuesday (technically my B/H), to work for " Operational Needs" and i'm given the option of either 10hrs o/t (my duty span) or a days credit (to be taken when convenient to management) , ok i can live with that , don't agree but no hardship , but suddenly this week , after making the Tuesday attendance i learn that i can't claim the o/t or day credit as the M/C manager has decided that no one is entitled to any form of B/H credit whatsoever !!!!!!!!! Why ? Because there's 2 B/H's and we've got to make X amount of attendances??? Where and when was this decided and by whom ?
Where's the M/C manager ? , where's the s**t , whoops sorry , Shift manager ? and where's the Union rep ? i know , at HOME with their families , unattainable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wave .
So i can't do anything about it , shut up , put up , No , not me , i've got to attend New Years Day at 10 pm and the argument will continue and i wont shut up or put up and i certainly wont be saying " well , ok then!!!!!!!" . If they want a fight they'll get one and not only from me !! , This , is OUR TIME not theirs , MINE not theirs. :no no See you in the New Year M/C manager , Shift Manager and Union Rep . Happy New Bloody Year !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else get the same ???

I think it's been a complete cock up all round. In the SO mail centre we were told at a pre xmas union meeting in OCTOBER that we would be working 318's all though xmas/new year. But on Wed 16th dec the bomb shell was dropped. We were told that there was a national agreement that xmas week we had to make 4 attendances. As I am a Friday night off i should have had Wed/Thur/Fri nights off but had to attend Wed night. On the New Year week we had to make 4 attendances again. We had no union reps, 2 acting managers, and 1 full time manager on Monday night. It's going to interesting what happens on the next bank holiday. :d'oh!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news pompeyminky, but what I am about to write below will please you less than last night's 4-1 defeat at home to the Gunners

We have the same arguments at my office every year, with people who do 4-day weeks feeling similarly aggrieved.

Royal Mail's view is that (their words) "all employees should, in the interests of fairness, do the exact same number of hours each when it comes to Christmas and New Year's Day weeks".

In England and Wales, that means:

The week ending 27th December 2009 contained ONE public holiday, on Friday (Christmas Day, duh) and so everyone should have completed 32 hours attendance that week, i.e. 4/5ths of a normal week. At my office, for anyone on a shift pattern of Tues-Fri 0600-1600, by doing their normal hours on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday would have only worked 30hrs. So what do RM do ? They force them to give up their normal rest day on Monday, by requiring them to either work the 'missing' two hours or come in and do 4 standard 8hr attendances from 0600-1400 Mon-Thurs !!!!

For the week ending this Sunday, 3rd January 2010, their stance is that because there are TWO public holidays on Monday 28th Dec and Friday 1st Jan, everyone should have completed 24 hours attendance this week, i.e. 3/5ths of a normal week.
Again, people on a Tues-Fri 0600-1600 pattern get shafted, because instead of having Tuesday off (in lieu of their Monday rest day falling on the Public Holiday), they are condemned to working 3 shifts of 8 hrs Tues/Weds/Thurs to reach the required total of 24hrs. The only alternative is to have Tuesday 29th off and then work 2 attendances of 12hrs on Weds and Thursday, and what sane person is going to do that ???

So, over the Christmas period my grandson is spitting bullets that as a recent entrant, he couldn't get annual leave and then the wee sleekit employer steals two of his rest days off of him :mad :mad
