Toughest christmas eve I have ever done - we were getting cards through from the MC dated 10 days+ ago. Remember when the first thing on TV ads after christmas was for holidays - well now we get the catalogues as soon as the cards start to tail off.

Underfoot was deadly with a mixture of snow, slush and ice everywhere on my route but a few generous customers to cheer me up. Finished at 4 and delivered everything with no p739's needed.

Freshened up now and taking my good lady out for a drink before getting down to present wrapping and prepping for the big dinner tomorrow, my daughter just arrived with a box of Harvey Nichols mince pies that cost the annual budget of a third world country but my God, they do taste good - and a "Panforte" looks and smells fantastic and will be tasted with coffee later - ooh, I've come over all christmassy .....at last

Thank goodness the mail was low today because the Sky Mags and Light bulbs nearly killed me!

Thanks to our Local council not doing even the minimum amount of gritting, this has been the third worse day I have known in 16 years.Mountains of mail. 6 inches of compacted snow and ice underfoot, and still the blizzards come!

Typical lies and chaos. Footpaths on main roads and many side streets compacted with ice making walking very difficult. But according to one

manager, the rain had washed it all away even though it was still there!

We're then told "no overtime for absence or pressure" despite a huge backlog of mail and packets. Let out early on walks so we could presumably get round in the non-existent but really existent iced footpaths and get back to cover other "lapsed" duties. Not a chance of course. Only in the snowblind imagination of management.

Then it's announced "the business" will pay overtime to deliver packets. Erm, the ones left in the office since before 23rd December? Stared at by the DIM for several minutes on that day?

Absolute farce, abysmal service to customers and all in the name of managements pointless bonus driven targets.

But if managers look at a York of delayed packets, and icy pavements, amazingly those things are no longer there! Brilliant eh? What super-powers RM managers have!

Great start to the morning, mail 40 mins late, Quite a busy wee morning with Bulky catalogues n sky mags plus a sh1t load of x-mass cards. 2hrs over my time also which was due to the lateness of mail and the horendous weather conditions

What a difference a day makes! Back in Tuesday and apart from the heavy holiday brochures, not very much on, Today was a different story. Loads of xmas mail came through late. Some dated as early as the 15th of Dec ffs! Made the DOM look a right prat after his speech yesterday about him not expecting very much between now and New Year. He wasn't very impressed with todays mail offerings.

Yesterday was very light, but not today, heavy as hell, I had it all, Sky Mags, bulky catalogs, lots of silly junk mail magazines, loads of bloody light bulbs and so much flats, I am glad I am off till Saturday

Second day of Saga and sky mag hell followed by subscription mags. Really heavy across the board.
Also a second wave of packets filled my drop bag as folks are getting bored sitting at home and are hitting the internet shopping hard
