we p/t in our office have to do flex.
even though our starting time is 9.

the f/t or the ones who come in early do there flex bit before we even walk into the office. so in other words they have the head start and easily complete there rounds and flex in alloted time. :arrrghhh

Same here, if you get in for 9 and bag up, takes you to 9.30, 15 minutes to get to first delivery point, 9.45, half hour break, 10.15, 3 and a half hour walk, 13.45, 15 mins pouching off, 14.00 or am I missing something.

A s**t one!! One that nobody know what our finishing times are from on day to the next! Everyone asks everyone else "what time we paid till today"?

I think its as follows:-

Mon 05.45-13.45
Tue 05.45-12.45
wed 05.45-13.45
thur 05.45-14.45
fri 05.45-14.45
sat 05.45-12.45

I start at 5.00 do 1hr50 IPS,40mins break,1hr30prep,15mins to first del point,3hr30 walk,15mins pouching off. finish at 1.00.
So as you can see it's not a FT/PT issue. It is a "doing the job properly" issue. :arrrghhh
In MY office more part-timers start early than full-timers.

Interesting conversation with Area rep today, told me he has had an email from ************'s office stating that negotiations have eached a critical stage and he needed to know whether the members would have a problem with working till 3 or 4 O'clock on Saturdays, and asking for a scaled response 1 being no problem and 10 being extreme problem! Needless to say Area rep indicated a score of 10+.

Dear Colleagues,
The national talks on Delivery Issues are hitting a number of critical
points - one of those points is the issue of Longer and Later Saturday
Working -
On a scale of one to ten, how big an issue is this for our members in
Delivery?
1 = not a big issue
10= massive issue

Ring a bell anyone? :whistle

Ding Dong indeedy - makes you wonder what is going to come out next week - Billy was on another thread saying that there was a no strike agreement and now we have this little feeder to the punters. The scary thing is that by the time it gets to a vote there has been enough "tit bits" to make everyone think it is a reality. I have stated before that the membership need to be wide awake when this agreement hits the street. What we don't need is an unsupported longer delivery span, a "shared" reward scheme, one off payments not included in the pension, a no strike agreement. The likes of some of the posters on here seem to think that this is an agreement to end all agreements mainly because they are involved in the negotiation but not the work involved afterwards. There is also something a little strange when they were reported to be not recommencing negotiations til the 4th of January..................

You are correct at this moment in time PT staff are not required to absorb. And yes I am a 30 Hour PT since September 2007 due to a buy down of hours. At this moment in time the DOM has not brought PT into absorbing.

Fishtank

At my D.O when the duties are done each week for the following week if there are any uncovered duties then staff are rearranged so that that one or both of the two designated duties for absorption can be absorbed by moving the duty holder to a different delivery. If somebody goes sick on the day and there are no spare staff in the D.O then absoprtion will take place but if the two deliveries are already being absorbed then OT comes into play.

If on a absorption day somebody feels they cant complete their overall delivery workload within their allocated hours of attendance then this is treated the same as allways, mangement decide what they would like the delivery officer to do. Never had any of this your not working properly have a stroppy letter crap at my D.O.

Cut offs are very rare these days and making lots of time is all the rage.

Yes people come in early yes they skip their break but when you look at actual hours worked add on the break compare to scheduled hours plenty of time is still being made, I honestly dont think some at my D.O are aware of the figures they are putting down of their own free will day day out.

It is because of all the spare time FT have which PT dont that FT do absorbing and PT dont, if as and when the DOM proposes absorbing for PT then that will be looked at as per IR framework and either accepted or rejected.

Surely if you start work on time, go for your full 40 minute meal relief, weigh your bags and work to your time, there won't be any time for lapsing? :arrrghhh what is wrong with your people??! Stop it now! Tell you what, start work half an hour early, forget about your meal relief, run around like an idiot then work you half an hour flexibility ...do this for a month. For free. Now if Royal Mail asked you to work for free you'd tell them to go jump right? RIGHT?? Come on people get a grip :arrrghhh

Daz,At the end of the day and without going into specifics Absorbtion is part of the OUTDOOR workload.
If your P/T delivery is the same as a F/T delivery then you should also be absorbing.
Providing of course their is time within your 3.30 delivery span and within your contracted hours.

But this is a F/T and P/T issue.
The full timers in my DO lapse by doing 20minutes less IPS than the rest of the full timers.
The P/T have to lapse by taking the time out of their delivery span.
It is s**t and is meant to divide us. And it does.

I've been banging on for ..months, nay years about this in our Office. Yet, people shrug their shoulders and just deflect onto others "Well he comes in early too" - This is why no one on the floor wants to be our rep, too many bleating sheep and not enough Shepherds. Our reps our PHGS one part time and one who hasn't done a walk in over 15 years. So as you can well imagine, none of the 'absorption and lapsing' effects them in the slightest.

Personally, I go in at 5.55am, box of what's been already put out by the 'early starters (paid)' - coded bundles etc.. go on the sorting til it's up, go for a ten minute break ( brew an a twix whilst others including the boss keep nipping out for a ciggie), prep, re-directions, bundle up, bag up, kill off me deads and then go.. by this time we are talking close to 10.00am. I've got close to a 4 hour walk. So, I do it and then claim the odd half hour here and there. I've no time for lapsing!

Others, cut off whilst throwing in to go and do there bit of walk of absorption or drive round in their own cars and do it BEFORE their own walks!! Using their own fuel and time. Time , which if walked would take close to 30 minutes to walk to, deliver and return to the office now takes about 10mins - and then wonder why the Royal Mail want to add further lapsed walks.

Another member of our staff is leaving. he will be replaced by a part timer which will mean another full timer will be taken off the sorting to thrown the PT's walk in for him. Thus making the work load heavier for others and more time on the sorting and the later out..which means less time to do lapsing which the boss will try and force the weak to do.

You are absolutely right ccr.
It is wrong and your rep is wrong to allow it to happen.
Do not allow it to divide your office.
Speak to your rep and if need be your area rep.
As i have stated Absorbtion is part of the outdoor workload and must be treated as such. :arrrghhh
