Yet many offices around the country allow posties to use private cars for delivery? So how can they sack these people.

Because you need the agreement of the DOM to use a private car - and if he won't give it, you are then breaking your contract of employment if you do. Fair - No

Even more hypocrisy just had another postie sacked for private cars from the same office.Failure to follow office policy and
failure to produce legal documents to drive private car. All the other offices in the southampton area are actively encouraged
to use their cars
