who do we employ anyone who will do the job when i started 15 years ago 50 people came for tests 3 got back for interview and 2 off us are still here, now if you turn up for the interview and can spell your name and dont have to much of a criminal record you are in, checks are carried out, a mate of mine with over 20 years service has just gone thanks to doing something very stupid with registerds,it only takes 1 bad person in an office of 300 to make us all look bad,but as per usual no one mentions all the good things we do or the records of our rivals which are far worse you only hear about what goes wrong to my mind when we find these people they should be jailed or deported as mentioned elsewhere

Janus, in The Courier ( RM's staff paper ), a couple of months ago, we were all told we had to work harder for the customer to maintain business, etc, etc - and what was the definition of customer? British Gas, Nat West, Amazon, Play.com, etc, etc.

Funnily enough, my definition of customer is the people I see, speak to, laugh or comiserate with - not some faceless corporation, but then again, I'm over paid and under worked, and not earning nearly £1m p.a. in addition to 9 other directorships
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Mail delivery; those that can, do, those that can't, MANAGE!

 Do you know...I have to say this... i have been really touched by these responses. I wrongly presumed that each and everyone of you would be on the defensive and shout back at me. How wrong I was. The money? well thats well and truely gone....but do you know what...You lot are decent and loyal to RM and I'm sorry if the insults offended anyone. (except of course the thief that took my daughters birthday money!) It seems your problems lie with the top landing. I can only express my support for you, make them listen and don't let the b*****ds grind you down.
I shall be watching your progress with interest. Good luck.

HELLO I AM A POSTIE AND A CUSTOMER ALSO
YES I HAVE HAD ITEMS THAT HAVE NOT TURNED UP AND BEEN DELIVERED.
WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME SINKING BOAT.
LIKE THEY HAVE SAID THE MANGEMENT SHOULD BE MORE THOROUGH WHO THEY EMPLOY.
I KNOW SOME POSTIES IN MY OFFICE HAVE HAD CRIMINAL RECORDS AS MY HUSBAND
WHO IS A POLICE OFFICER HAS DEALT WITH THEM IN THE PAST. BIG JOKE. ROYAL MAIL.

THE PUBLIC DOES NOT SEEM TO RECOGNISE THAT WE POSTIES ARE CUSTOMERS ASWELL!!!
AND GO THROUGH THE SAME SITUATIONS ON LOST STOLEN ITEMS.

WHEN I POST ANY PARCEL THESE DAYS I ALWAYS SEND IT RECORDED DELIVERY SO I KNOW I GOT PROOF OF POSTING. ALSO I DONT TRUST THE SYSTEM. SORRY FELLOW WORKMATES BUT ITS HAPPENING EVERYWHERE.
IN MY OFFICE THEY ARE SO NOSEY, IF I HAVE A PACKET/PARCEL SENT TO ME YOU CAN GUARANTEE THAT IT HAS BEEN TAMPERED WITH JUST TO SEE WHAT I AM GETTING IN THE POST, NOSEY BUGGERS!!!

I'm not loyal to them mate. I wouldn't cross the street for them. The customer is an altogether different matter. Thieving from them is thieving from our own kind and that's not on at all.

better employees

you can tell they are running royal mail down by the standard of person they now employ! before you get on my back, let me explain. when i joined r.m i had numerous interviews, tests, and even had to sign the official secrets act! i had to put my mothers maiden name, and was asked if any of my family had been in trouble with the law! when checks like this are no longer done then it is inevitable that thieves etc will get through the system. regards dongash opg macclesfield sk :no no :no no :no no :no no :no no :no no :no no :no no

Post by smartie »

Even when they knock my door with a parcel to be signed they are waiting there for me to tell them what it is.
Also if i am not in work then return off leave they say,' sorted a parcel for you last week must of been from Ebay' so F***ing What Get a life and keep on sorting i usually say.

I think they are hoping for a big Vibrator to fall out of the parcel or something like that so that they can all have a laugh.
NOT A CHANCE!!

The Boring jobs....

Post by L Tommo »

Yeh i recon ur right Carla and Cornish...

I made mental notes of everthing when i was Delivering... It just came with the walk,.... When a customer was on hols i knew.. I knew just by the mail building up or just by silly things as milk bottles left and curtains pulled... Mad stuff.. I just took note of everything.. Dont know why just did??? It helped a few times when other things like keys in the door that have been left.. Mothers with kids done this the most.. And in a way i liked to know they were safe as anyone could of got there keys and car keys and done all sorts... I did make you a bit nosy tho..

Its part of the job that i recon most posties will tell you.. On a regular walk you get to know everybody... I loved this.. And as i lived local to my walk when i saw a customer out of uniform They never knew who i was... (Apart from im a George Clooney looky likey)

I loved the craic i had with some of my people... And if i had a packet i would leave it in with there mates or made sure they knew where it was... (NEVER STEPPING) Good boy wernt i.. :angel  But the relationship had its great points... I met a few lovely people and some idiots with the ump everyday... FECK EM!!! Its a part of the job when i first started i never thought posties would have to be involved in so many peoples business...?? Then comes the reading the postcards.... Naughty naughty... :no no I had one old dear used to send me a postcard to read and sent it to her address.. She was a lovely old dear...Mrs Law.... RIP... I went to a few funerals as well.. And a few piss ups and birthdays.. Now Not many jobs you would get a invite to a birthday party or funeral would ya????

Now in a Faceless MAIL CENTER... I miss them days on the walks.... WOODSIDE 29. Was a bastard but a good walk, Heavy but close to home so i loved it.... Ohh and had 4 pubs on it.. With a beer anytime i wanted :dance :dance :dance

Now whos the sad BASTARDS NOW THEN??? :cool

Not to mention a few fillys that were a treat.. :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy

OUT

"ello my dear ive got something for you... And its very big and wet.... Yeh ME.. Its pissing down...."

major.mawanga wrote: ...............I`d imagine a theiving posties excuse for an opened envelope would either be "the envelope must have come loose in transit" or "that`s the way it was when I first seen it". When I see an open piece of mail the first thing I do is show the Office Manager. It won`t help the mail in any way, but the manager can at least pursue it to the local Mail Centre....................
Some good points there mawanga. It's true though that the gum on some birthday card envelopes is totally useless, not only that it doesn't cover the whole area to be sealed (at least that was true of the last 2 I bought).

Having said that I think every Delivery Office/Mail Centre should record items of "sensitive mail" that arrive in an unopened or damaged state especially birthday cards etc.. We can't rely on the public to report every item that might have been tampered with. Logging the postmark and which part of the system the item was discovered damaged would enable trends to be discovered and enable the dishonest to be caught a lot sooner.
