My best ever was about ten years ago when an elderly lady told me her grandson was trying to get a RM job. As it happened or DOM had told us the day before if we knew anyone intrested in working at the mail centre to see him as he had fast track application forms. I got a form and dropped it off to the old dear and thought no more about it. Did not see her until christmas where she told me he was now working nights at the MC and loving it. She gave me a card and told me not to open it untill i finished. When i opened it i found a nice note thanking me and 50 quid, yes 50 QUID    .
I knocked the next day and told her it was way too much money and offered £45 back but she just would not take it off me and started to take offense  so i kept it :Very Happy
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Shake it well before you zip it up.
Oh, TIPS!!!! Sorry.
About £20. But being a relief/reserve, I've refused many tips and told them to give it to the regular Postie.
Or, give to NSPCC/RSPCA instead of me.
I've actually given some to these types of organisations myself as I felt I didn't deserve it. The kids/dogs did.

Being cover you get sod all & this year none of the regulars are sharing any :no no
ditto, us reserves/spares get the worst duties, no long weekends and jack s**t at christmas happy christmas :Very Happy
I did all right for a couple of years with the regulars giving me a percentage of what they got but since the re-pick & the new ones coming in they share nothing :no no
I would be happy to give a share if my relief didn't leave bands everywhere, leave his lunch remains and empty cans in the pouch box and constantly misdeliver mail - so I leave it to fate - the customers know he is a liability, dread him being on my duty, and I am sure they will tip him accordingly when he does my day off.
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile

on a different duty now, however on my last one an elderly lady always in the winter months use to say to me daily, because her husband had past away and i think she liked the company, "come in postman and have a drink"..when I went in to her home there would be a a very large "holiday shot" whiskey waiting for me... and every day she would say "my husband always recommended a stiff drink during the winter months" bless her she has past now but what a nice rememberance in this festive time :wave

It could be this one. Today I got my first and only tip of the year.
Not money but 3 scratch-off lottery tickets. Will I win anything ? Let's see.

Ticket #1 Top prize is £100,000

*Scratch. Scratch. Scratch.*

No. Not got 3 matching numbers.

Ticket #2 Top prize is £9,000

*Scratch. Scratch. Scratch.*

That's better, 3 matching £1 numbers.

Ticket #3 Top prize is £7,777

*Scratch. Scratch. Scratch.*

Another fail. So that's it. My total tips for 2009 is £1.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?
