How many on here said it was stalling tactics to get us over the Christmas period? All the spouting about determination, an agreement early December, progress being made, 4 days a week set aside for negotiations. I read today of a bloke in America who bought shares in the recession and made 1.5 billion dollars - on his desk he had a pair of brass balls - I wonder if there is any chance of lending them to the CWU.

On the 5th November National IA was cancelled due to the fact that both sides had agreed in principle to continue talks with the threat hanging over RM that if no progress was made over the next few weeks the strikes would be re-activated. That was nearly 8 weeks ago and it would seem that although some progress has been made there is still some sticking points. Sticking points which have not been resolved despite intense talks.

At this rate we will be entering the pay negotations for 2010 or is that the plan ?

I feel really let down with what is going on and already can hear the cries of "told you so" ringing out allready.

Despite being told by the CWU that the aim was for a deal by the end of December we are now being told it mat be 22nd January or is that until we get close to that date.

I don't think the CWU has or ever had any intention of sanctioning further IA.

If I have missed a communication from the Union, then I apologise, but I believe that an agreement was to be made before the end of December regarding our current Industrial Dispute.

Anybody got a clue what is happening, been agreed, not agreed, our next move?

An LTB came out on Wednesday 23rd which was an agreed positon between Royal Mail and the CWU.

The LTB included a statement from Roger Poole extending the talks till the 22nd January. The full terms of the interim agreement stays in place including that no executive action can take place.

Progress has been made but this is one of the most important agreements which we will ever make and it is vital the cwu get it right. The new workplan which Royal Mail want to introduce is the most significant change since two deliveries were collasped and will have a massive effect on all workers not just deliveries.

The Union is of course mindful of the fact that like many other Royal Mail ventures with automation it may well be another trogan horse but the workplan change will undoubtly have a major effect on our future. This will be phased as to when you have walk sequencing due.

So instead of rushing and making the wrong agreement , the union wanted time to reflect and then discuss together each of the different strands which are having negoations. Remember no every office is in the same negotations , there are 6 different sets of negotations in additon to the benefits and the deployment strands.

I understand everyones frustration as the negotatiors have been sworn to secrecy and little comms have come out but that is on Roger Pooles and Acas insistance so the union would be heavily critiscised publically if it breached this code.

Senior Royal Mail managers are also very much in the dark they have to achieve their budgets and have not deployed any thing in quarter 4 and now have had a further delay till Jan 22nd.

Lets hope the CWU get this deal right.

Votes of no confidence are never very successful , however John Keggie surivived by just one Branch in 2001 for his responsibility for the way forward but lost his job two years later by the way of the ballot box the way in my opinion it should be.

The vote that will count will be whether we accept any new agreement, if the deal is not acceptable it will be no, regardless of any recommendation - in this respect we ARE the union and should exercise caution when listening to those who stand to gain more by a YES vote than the membership. When things go wrong those same people who recommend these agreements are only too quick to point out that the membership voted for it.

Maybe they will keep extending the existing talks so that everyone gets fed up waiting and the interim sell out agreement will hold the field.
