Big turnout for funeral of popular postman

More than 100 friends and family members attended the funeral of a popular postman.
Mourners turned out in force yesterday to pay their respects to 25-year-old Jamie Doidge, who died after jumping from Itchen Bridge in Southampton earlier this month.

The death of the former Bridgemary Community School pupil, who had many friends and delivered mail in Fareham, has come as a complete shock to those close to him.

Dozens of post office staff were among those who paid tribute to the young postman at Portchester Crematorium.

Jamie's former boss, Chris Aldred, 48, delivery office manager at Fareham sorting office, said: 'He was a lovely young man, a good worker who was very reliable.

'He was always the life and soul of the party and never had any problems. He is sadly missed.'

Mr Aldred said his death had had a 'great impact' on all the Fareham postal staff.

He said: 'All the staff are in shock. He had many friends and they all miss him.

'It's just a shame there was nothing that we could do.'

Jamie's parents have thanked everyone who has offered them support at this tough time.

Dad Chris Doidge, 47, of Chale Close, Rowner, Gosport, said: 'Our family and friends have been brilliant.'

Mum Angela, 49, added: 'They've been so supportive, there's flowers and cards all over the place.'
