Luckily I did'nt have too bad a day, got in at 6 cleared a ton of snow off my van then told to go and get rid of some bulk deliveries in town, back to the office to take someone out to their start point. Back to the office to take out a couple of yorks of parcels but told to only take one and got given 10 9am specials that were 3 days old dotted all round the place, done them cleared the york of packets back to the office and home
Side roads were in a terrible condition but I did'nt get stuck

Went over by 1:45 but walked carefully helped by the boot fitting snow chains I remembered were deep in the garage somewhere - customers seemed surprised to see me out as the bin men never showed at all and now I will have to keep negotiating 520 sets of bins until they get off their lazy arses or the weather gets nice for them. Still, one customer gave me their tip as well because he thought I deserved it more than they did. Very tired but feel I have done a good job today and the customers agreed to the tune of £90 and a few prezzies.

not seen any gritters in one place, never mind two - and what happens to the teams of bin movers that accompanies the non grunting driver of each wagon - in our area gritters and bin wagon staff are different companies responsible to different authorities so are hardly likely to be job sharing.

I can only speak for my area obviously but the "bin movers" drive the small tractors which clear the paths.
It would be complete waste of money to have a permanent team to deal with adverse weather so most councils use bin men.
If it is a prolonged spell they use private contractors to empty the bins and thats why people will see different coloured bin lorries this week.
BTW so this doesn't go off topic my day was sh1t.

I hope this is the simple answer to the lightbulb fiasco.,,
Is it because the person who agreed this contract has never handled a single item of mail or been anywhere near a sorting office in December in his or her sad little life?
Wonder how much bonus he or she will pick up for that amazing piece of initiative?

A really good day today, out for 8.15 and finished for 11.15 so got another 2 hours 20 mins back from the ot our Dom has refused to pay our office over xmas. One lad even got finished for 10am having left the office at 7.15 after agreeing to clear all his lightbulbs up! The only downside is the snow and ice doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Has anyone had there area manager grace there office yet as ours was in today and kept chatting on his phone and never acknowledged anyone except the dim line manageress

What a bad day, parcels/packets have taken over the office, this morning we had approx 12k of packets/parcels, can't move for yorks. Took 3 yorks out but bought back 1 as I ran out of time due to the van getting stuck loads of times. Hope everything thaws out soon.

Nightmare day!!
Out at 9am, finished at 4pm!! And exhausted!!
And more of the same tomorrow!!
Funny thing is we had to help the drivers with their packets on Monday as it was too unsafe to use bikes and so would have got back too early. So spent several hours till 2.45 delivering packets "Star Burst" fashion. But after getting all the drivers packets cleared, there was no attempt from them to help us on delivering the letter mail today!! Hmmm.
And one of our DIMS is going to implode if she does not calm down!! I now wear a walkman to drown out her Irritating voice!!
And with so many now going sick we are going to start lasping 2 walks from next week for the foreseeable future!! So good times ahead!!

We had our xmas raffle this morning inbetween lorries, I won a £30 meat voucher from the local butchers, a big bottle of whiskey, ice age 3 dvd and a cute little elephant from the kids. Also had our breakfast baguettes paid for by royal mail!! Aparently, royal mail allowed managers to spend £4 per head for brekkie!!
