Health and Safety in Glasgow Mail Center

Post by Demonsorter »

Is it just me or has Health and Saftey become an afterthought in glasgow mail center!!????

There are numerous walkways cut down to 1 and a half feet wide!!
There are bullrings totally surrounded by yorks with people stuck in the center!!
There are inexperienced drivers operating around the platform!! One of whch was in charge of a double decker with no idea of how it operates!! And another driver driving away from a trailer being unloaded without having put the legs down! the whole thing nearly toppled with people inside (Im sure this wasnt even reported!)
People walking about plugged in to mp3 players pushing yorks!

You might ask why i dont report all of this but i have no faith in the little pieces of paper the managers now fill in and having heard that the main man in charge of health and safety saying that we are too busy for health and saftey! ill just wait till someone is killed!!

What has happened to this job????????????????????????? :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

totally agree .................

working 10 people to a bull ring in the middle of the packet sorting machine aint ideal. You actually dont get any work done, but again GMC is all for throwing bodies at it just to get rid of the work, but if fact i dont really work. Well done the management :Applause :Applause :Applause

your lucky when you pass the cfc area at the toilets to get past

Its a joke
your the cheese on my wotsit lol

They just think that Health and Safety applies only 50 weeks of the year, and during the 2 pressure weeks, as if by magic, Royal Mail become exempt.

Reps don't give a toss about what goes on, usually you get a "we'll look into it . . " and that's the LAST you hear about it, too busy colludiing with the powers that be, and "flirting" with line managers.
They wander aorund thinking they're some sort of "Royalty" in GMC and have a downright condescending manner towards the people that pay their union fees. apart from the ass kissers and friends that stick to them like magnets to ensure they get overtime and the union gossip and scandal, including confidential stuff like who's on the sick and what's wrong with them .. so remember that :Very Happy

Managers just huff and puff and prefer not to rock the boat, but are quite happy to quote the chapter and verse of RM's Health and Safety policies throughout the other 50 weeks .. when they want to, including using their pointless H&S glorified post-it notes!! They should be stuck on the front gate, because the entire mail centre is a hazard :evil/mad

Just finished two weeks there myself ( back at my DO tomorrow ) was mostly on the IPS and primary sorting but whenever was at the bullrings etc it was one big giant unorganised mess.

And the people in charge of it all seemed to be young girls.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

SHOCKING last night on the packet machine......approx. 10 people on 2 legs and more than 4 on every leg the management within GMC ought to get their act together as ususual they only pay lip service towards H+S ..but where was the union in all this i here you ask "...nothing we can do about it just now "althought they did voice their objections there was morethey could have done.....and who knows GMC might well have been goin up that yellow brick road .....eh! chaps

It's the redskins on four of the roads that is a major hazard, the person next to you has to throw across you at body height, last night I'm sure if I'd been there I'd have flinched a couple of times. And as for the primary side, two to a station does not work, I've seen people throw heavy packets over their partner's head. Besides the PCS is not fit for purpose, it's not suitable for GMC's layout, I wonder how long it'll take to be dismantled presumably it's not going for scrap and some other poor bugger will have to suffer its idiosyncrasies.

It's an extreme irony.

They spend all that time on WTL, H&S videos and all that bull$%it ... then the minute you confront a manager, OR A REP, about a health and safety breach the same replies are heard

"we'll look into it" or "ok i'll see what i can do"

Absolutely shocking, and just egostistical by the management, well the ones that are left!, in GMC !!!!!!!

ive already posted before bout the packet machine ...its going in march....after we had our rant and rave bout the H+S on tues afternoon to union and management ,we were told that certain individuals had complained bout the performance of people on the pcs and therefore we would all be getting moved and we would be getting tested (..COINCEDENCE.....ithink not) so turns out only 3 people got moved and the testing well.....no agreement for sorting from totes to DBF and as we reminded them when they said to us "wheres the agreement that says you cant have more than 4 on the road, and as we ponted out THEIR SSOW for ALTs clearly states that no more than 2 sorting from the alt anyway idigress heard our baldy cheif was the victim of a hit and run on tues!!! who was it ???

The list of potential suspects could run to a few pages....... :left:

Must have been a failed hit & run as he was still walking about after we heard about it.
