Re: An Answer to Billy Hayes
excellent article Roy, like i said in another post somewhere, with the anti-trade union laws we are something akin to modern day slaves. the power to withdraw your labour is a fundamental right that forms part of the dividing line between freedom and slavery.
"why should it just be the bankers, politicians and the idle rich who get all the best things ? we demand a standard of living for our members that enables them to share in the fine wines and times that the likes of Cameron and his Eton buddies take for granted " - the late great Bob Crow RIP.

Re: An Answer to Billy Hayes
I think the idea is more global corporate cabals wanting a share of the public sector cake . It's laughable , some of the PPI / PFI arrangements / partnerships will actually cost more or even fail as they are so inefficient as there will be so much management to run things and Beaurocracy -Roy Mayall wrote:Roy Mayall's response to Billy Hayes and Richard Hooper on You & Yours on Friday:

The Tube is a classic case in point , and the National Railways cost far more in subsidy , ironically the 90's ideologues thought they could end subsidy
In actuality there will be more debt no matter what they sell off AND Governments will have to pay more for their previous in house state services like the NHS , The Tote etc
http://www.debtbombshell.com/uk-national-debt.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Problem Britain has is that it hasn't got anything to sell bar Banking Services as Governments have got away with a economy based on nothing for years .
The PPI idea was actually first used by Mussolini in bankrupt Fascist Italy during WW2 .
The game plan is EEC directives , cuts , little or no sovereignty to govern , you're correct in saying it'll turn the clock back 200 years to Serfdom , the way that Europe will be governed and ran is called Common Purpose and the idea is Communtarism - a sort of right wing communism if you will , it proves that you can be so far out that you meet the other side round the back as politics can go in circles .
Cameron is a big fan of it and you can be sure his mates will be looked after well but Europe will split the Tories and they'll see through him .
You're right about profit for Corporations being a God to be worshipped - right wingers would say it's to make a United States of Europe as much a economic powerhouse as say China , The US etc but we all know that trickle down doesn't really work .
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7923653655" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Common Purpose Some of it is Right Wing Euro - sceptic conspiracy theories and far too paranoid - some of it is plausible - I'm used to Tory papers slagging Unions to hell , it's gone on for donkey's years but I've never known such a vicious media full of propaganda as of now & such a busy body Labour Government .

Cheers - best I could do in summing things up . :mfo just loves Europe , he can look after his rich fat cat mates whilst lording it over us serfs . My view is if there's people on both the left and right that have a problem with it , there's got to be something in it .MinisterofCucumber wrote:Spot on, Norbert.

That Economic site is good as it's broken down well with no waffle , the author says he's apolitical ; I'd say he's a right wing Libertarian rather than Authoritarian Tory .
He conveniently forgets about Lamont & the ERM in 92 & The Tories having to sell everything off to bail themselves out . It's given New Labour problems as they've had to throw more money at privatised things and a lot of it disappears into fat cat salaries and shareholder's pockets .
Where New Labour have gone wrong is trying to make things work that don't work and / or wasn't meant to work and again it's expensive - NHS for a start . There's also the meddling and Mandy coming back to the tired old " solutions " like with RM .

Re: An Answer to Billy Hayes
Mandelson must go.
There is a lot of evidence that RM management have been breaking national agreements and so are responsible for the breakdown in Industrial relations. Management at my place broke the MTSF2 and substitution policies but, as far as I know, no managers have been disciplined for this failure to do their jobs properly.
The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry has still not replaced Crozier's gang with a management team who are serious about building trust and good industrial relations. In my opinion, Mandelson is not doing his job properly.

Re: An Answer to Billy Hayes
Roy, as a retired postie now listening to your book readings with my wife - also ex RM - nostalgia does comes to mind.
BUT despite the critics and those trying to disparage your/our view there is little doubt that there is a subtle and increasing support for such views. The Stand By Your Post campaign succeeded because of public support. Spreading the word to them by means of honest and interesting articles written by people who really know and using the media in this way seems far more influencial than anything the politicians and directors of RM can ever say.
We would like to see much more of your stuff being spread via the internet - I came across it on an ex-pats forum in France not from any RM oriented site - where you could enlarge on the arguments around where the posties really stand. For instance, posties are being demonised as anti modernisation but since the 80's they have absorbed and dealt with everything from the demise of the sociable facing table - just loved the banter - to operating OCR's etc single handed with little interaction with other staff. A credible explanation of what it means would be very helpful for the ordinary public to understand just what its about.
For my part, during the strike we were having lunch with people of all political persuasions who asked what was going on. When we had bored them rigid with so much info about the problems we had read on this site they agreed with soneone who observed that what we had said bore little resemblance to what they heard via the ordinary media.
Your explanations around the problems of RM's concept of modernisation will be far more believable because readers know the basis of your concerns about the business.
There seems no doubt that the credibility of your writing has far more influence than anything the Union or RM can put out so please keep at it.
Your appreciative ex-collegues.

Re: An Answer to Billy Hayes
Agree - RM don't like it nor did Billy Hayes apparently . The tide is starting to turn after Panorama & Newsnight despite the vicious and hostile media machine behind RM . A lot of it is to confirm people's prejudices but not everyone laps it up .
With a recession , people become more cynical .
There was a lot of this in the 80's & 90's - the simple mantra , Private = Good , Public = bad ..... not necessarily
, the drip effect .

Billy seems to have one eye on a post General Election Labour Party , will it tear itself apart , will there be bloodletting ? - I know the Tories secretly wanted to lose the 92 Election as they were that split on Europe .
The interesting bit is who replaces Brown , secondly will these Blairite & Brownite MP's ( the opposite side of the same coin ) keep their seats ? , the game with Billy & Dave seems to be don't give Pa McRuin too many problems or Cameron & the media will play the Winter of Discontent card .
Even if certain people are resigned to losing the General Election the game will be to keep Cameron's majority down . In '83 the Social Democrats split the anti - Tory vote so " hang 'em and flog 'em right wing Tory MP's got in and Thatcher could be more " radical " .
Ultimately the CWU may have to go down the Bob Crow RMT - Millwall , noone likes us , we don't care route and disaffiliate & threaten more strikes than a Zippo lighter as staff would be that sick of the " corrupt " right wing old guard which means Billy will have to get a job at Greggs .

Re: An Answer to Billy Hayes
I dont think they ignore them intentionally, a PP needs to make itself known and campaign hard and fast. This is very difficult for the smaller parties with less members and a lot less big money being donated.
In my area the focus for the Green Party for 2010 is membership recruitment. The potential to push Labour down in support is massive in my small part of the world.
Untill the breakthrough into the Houses of Parliment comes then the smaller parties will not get as much notice taken of them as those parties with represenatives in parliment.
