firstly good luck for the future mate. I am now at a similar stage where i may have to be medically retired due to ongoing health nproblems, how complicated was the process and what happens to your pension. Were you offered a compensatory payment or just given money out of your pension fund.Any advice please

it is the doctor that would recommend either ill health retirement with lump sum ( that is if they consider you not to be fit for work for 9 months ) or ill health retirement with pension ( that if they consider that your not fit for work either for the rm or anothe employer for at least 10 years ).
If you are lucky enough to get your pension ( It is not easy to prove you cant work for ten years ) you will get your pension increased by 75 per cent on what you would have got at 60. For example if you are 44 years old with 20 years service your pension with be incresed by 12 years making it a total of 32 years.
You will get 3 months notice (no deductions ) plus your shares and outstanding leave (both deductable ) with either lump sum retirement or pension. the only difference is the lump sum would be 33 weeks (no deductions ) and your pension frozen till 60 or lump sum would be your pension straightaway.

Good luck. If you get your pension your on a right result.
I am 36 , got 18.5 years pensionable pay ( started at 16 but cant start paying pension till 18 ) increased by another 18 years making it a total of 36.5 years. It works out that I started paying for my pension when the midwife was cleaning me....
