THIS was the queue outside the mail collection office in Aberdeen Walk at noon on Saturday.
Just minutes before the post office's collection depot was due to close a line of nearly 40 people stretched from its doors along Aberdeen Walk.
There was already a queue when the office opened at 7am on Saturday – and similar queues could be seen at other days during the week.
One customer got to the office as the doors opened on Saturday and had to wait behind six other people to collect a parcel.
In the queue later on in the day was Marion Stathes, from Newby. She was near the end of the line. She said: "It's quite a queue – I know they're due to shut soon, so I hope I'm not wasting my time. It's pretty nippy too – you'd think they'd extend their opening hours a bit at this time of the year."
Alison Harper, a visitor from Hull, was waiting to collect a Christmas card. "I've got to collect it because it didn't have enough stamps on it," she said. "The queue is moving quite quickly."
In the end, the posties played Santa and stayed open past noon, so everyone could grab their Christmas goodies.
