Re: leeds mail centre
If it is then other Mail centres in Yorkshire are in it, big time
York, Bradford and Hull spring to mind with Donny into Sheffield, or they might go the full hog and close Sheffield as well. I think its farily obvious Bradford is in danger due to the present one becoming a lake in the near future as part of the redevelopement of the city centre. York has always been dodgy due its high sale value and the closeness of Leeds. Hulls geography has always been its saviour, but with falling mail volumes and widening of the sorting window could be its undoing this time around. Donny is too close to Sheffield and has noise abatement problems with a neighbour. If they get away with there re-organisation plans in the north west, they will turn on Yorkshire next and gawd help us. We need to stick together and not be too keen to take work from other offices which would mean job losses on a massive scale at losing offices. One super office for the whole of Yorkshire may not seem feasable, but they take all the Saturday mail now and most of the second class is concentrated there.
All conjecture/rumour I know, we all hope it is not true but they are upto something and they are not saying to much, but something is going on in the Yorks region as managers seem to be applying for all manner of jobs outside mail centres.
Talk about rats leaving sinking ships

Re: leeds mail centre
Spoke to one of the drivers today,he's heard nothing,i know it has the capacity to
expand, and it's been mentioned before,i believe at one end of the mail centre there's
a wall leading on to a football pitch (land owned by RM)
It's possible there looking to put walk sequencing machines in there,as i know they have
one at a trial site in leeds, however as people have already stated, they require a lot of space.

Re: leeds mail centre
Stourton in Leeds is a big site and though I did not work for RM when it was being built I did know some Leeds Posties from Seacroft. They thought Stourton was far too big for the work it was getting then and they thought spare capacity had been designed in from the start. If this is true it sounds like they had plans in place 7 years ago.
We are fed by Bradford and in WTLL it was briefly mentioned that Bradford was under threat but no time frame was given.

Re: leeds mail centre
Its too small now!!, there is barely enough room for all the equipment in it. One end of the building is expandable though (the end with the flats machine at). There is grasscrete beyond that wall (under the football pitch). When it first opened 10 years since (ive been there from the start) rm had a deal with B&Q that they could have first refusal on the building if we ever moved.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Stourton in Leeds is a big site and though I did not work for RM when it was being built I did know some Leeds Posties from Seacroft. Re: leeds mail centre
Is it then safe to assume that the Bradford sorting office is facing closure in the new year? There's rumours of it, and the sorting office wasn't on the plans for the new city centre.
I'm just looking for answers, basically, as i know my step-dad has worked there over 30 years and is currently negotiating his redundancy pay out, my mum is part time and is also being given less hours with redundancy offered, and i am aware a big part of the mail is already transferred to the leeds office. This has a huge impact on my business, so if i know what i'm dealing with, at least i can prepare for the future. Any insight or updates will be greatly appreciated!
Tar v muchly!! (Hope your not all too pressured processing all my packages!)

Re: leeds mail centre
there is currently a revision underway at bradford m/c to reduce manpower and put the hours where the work is hence vr and buy down of hours being offered (was told buy down had gone out of the window however).
although all 2nd class mail has gone to leeds there is no talk of the Mail centre shutting anytime soon.
But as we all know this can change very quickly.
As for plans for city centre you can ignore them i am sure cos we don't have a city centre anymore just a great big bloody hole.....

Re: leeds mail centre
Looking at an overhead view of Leeds MC on google earth, looks like if the building were extended (assuming RM could get planning permission) you would get very much more usable space. Do you have any walk sequencing machines (not LSMs, iLSMs or IMPs running as walk sequencing machines) at Leeds MC?
