One of the best posts on RMC is below, what is your problem?

If any worker goes on strike, its for a good reason.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It's called having a peasant mentality, "I'm only worth as much as my master says I'm worth." Sad, very sad.

Those who deride BA's workforce for trying to defend itself are in reality simply cheerleaders for a race to the bottom in pay and conditions.

yeah Tony McCarthy - bad reputation at BAE too

Another RM Personnel Director had 477 Tribunal cases outstanding against him at Bombardier Shorts .

There's a lot of infighting within UNITE , the T&G part is the militant part whilst AMICUS is more moderate . Union politics is more vicious than ordinary politics , a lot of New Labour whips are ex union officials .

BASSRA is a branch of the T&G , where BA is arguably a bit of a mess is due to the amalgamations of the likes of BOAC etc , then there's the aftermath of BA being privatised & becoming a PLC , there are arguably similarities to RM as London is a issue , Heathrow is apparently the centre of the universe whilst Gatwick is a different story , and the likes of Manchester etc different again .

Some in UNITE want BASSRA reigned in a bit , there's a lot of jostling for the top positions with the likes of Harridan Harperson's old man due to stand down i.e. that story about a UNITE leader spending a night in a posh £399 hotel instead of getting the train home which just happened to appear in The Daily Mail :hmmmm

You've got old hands on good numbers at Heathrow & see themselves as a elite whilst some staff don't earn a fraction of their earnings , nor do they have the lucrative routes . They fear that Walsh wants to Ryanairise BA and have a second tier workforce on Ryanair type contracts and wants everyone's contracts full stop .

I can relate to all the bickering and backbiting over money & divide and rule from my experience in another union :Very Happy , my Uncle used to work for BA and I've heard some stories ! . :Very Happy

It's heavily unionised like RM , 12,500 out of 14,000 but there's a sizeable non union rump that seem to be Mr / Mrs BA and sound like BA Assistant HR Directors , in a way the company loyalty is good and understandable but ........

Some are scathingly critical of a BASSRA union official who lives in the States and she hasn't worked for over a year . Some didn't expect to be on strike for 12 days over Xmas .

BASSRA had been in negotiation with BA , then BA imposed things in mid November , bit like RM Senior managers bragging about orchestrating strikes in London with Executive action :hmmmm :hmmmm with a legal timescale the earliest they could strike was December .

Apparently if they just went out over a couple of days , staff fear that the strikers could be picked off whilst other staff off on leave would be left alone . If they went out in January they feared that Walsh would starve them back to work , again a bit like RM :hmmmm

There's definitely a HR policy of brinksmanship just like RM ? instead of negotiation with BA .

The incestuous relationship in British business, whereby you can make a f**k up of one job and then migrate as if by magic to another very well paid job,is quite frankly disgusting.

I think ? HR management is just a " intellectualised " version of 80's style macho management . I think ? this right wing Professor came up with the idea and it was the in vogue thing in the mid to late 90's .

The gist of it is that you work as much overtime as possible to prove your " loyalty " and " commitment " to the Company and you report back to management everything that " terrible union " is up to .

The " terrible " union steward is always first up for redundancy , last in , first out doesn't apply , that's if they've not got rid of him or her by fair or foul means first .

The " magic circle " is incestuous " as Mandy said about RM's senior management - " there seems to be a deficient senior management gene pool in the UK " and Hooper said RM's Senior Management " lack the expertise to run a postal operation " .

They're just hired hands or " useful " idiots :hmmmm

They have a satire cartoon strip in " Private Eye " called " The Directors " , in one a director was called into Whitehall and was told " You've cocked up with this company ; so we're giving you RM " - so things are designed to fail and Privatisation becomes the "panacea" :d'oh!

Leighton has tried to distance himself from Government with RM but I wouldn't fall for that nice cop act for a second :hmmmm :hmmmm

What a nasty rag the Daily Wail is, you can almost sense the glee the journo felt when reporting on the stewardess spat at by a thickwit.
To that rag, and it's pathetic readership, there is never a good reason why people feel it necessary to take strike action. To that rag, and it's pathetic readership, morons like Crozier & Walsh are people to be lauded and applauded. Boy, would I love the chance to be their worst nightmare, and then some!

What was that stewardess supposed to do ? lift her skirt up and pull her tights and knickers down for Walsh & ex RM's McAvoy ? not her fault that her union may have handled it better ?

A swath of strike ballots are in danger of being struck down under legal challenges using the same loopholes that disabled the 12-day British Airways strike.
According to sources close to active industrial disputes, a number of strike ballots involving rail and bus operators are facing legal challenges using the same arguments that won BA a surprise injunction this week.
BA's lawyers were inspired by a case against a bus strike in London last year that was ruled illegal due to irregularities in the ballot running up to industrial action. Metrobus won the legal battle using a section of the 1992 Trade Union Act that requires unions to give the company accurate voting information, including the number of employees who voted and details of their respective departments.
The revelation comes as Unite, which lost the Metrobus and BA court fights, officially informed the airline today that it will re-ballot crew members for industrial action early in the new year.

There are 3 ex Royal Mail managers on the British Airways negotiating team Tony McCarthy , James Farren who McCarthy sent to Harvard when both were at Royal mail it was farren who introduced the punishment charter for offices who took unofficial industrial action including removing all local agreements and put the AREA REPS back to duty. He fell out with Higson and McCarthy took him to BA.

A further ex Royal Mail manager albeit only a Ex DSM is Snider who is an hard liner as well.
