I do both early/late shift, infact the late shift is a worse duty as basically you're on your own. Went to the CWU room but no one there, will try again tomorrow.

Thanks Johnnypick, I did bring it up in a conversation with some managers this morning, they looked at me blankly, then one of them said, IF i'm entitled to it only the early turn callers would get it in there pay

callers office at our place was a phg job but over the years has turned into light duties/spare man job as the phg people have retired moved on etc however country wide i know people are getting training officer/respnosibilty pay for doing the job, check with the d/o s around you and see what there staff are getting sometimes its paid just to cover the job but be carefull when quoting people because its 50/50 as to weather you should be getting extra pay or they should not be

if you think you are entitled to it speak to a rep and work out how much you are owned
i be tempted to put in a claim anyway regardless see what happens
good luck

Being in a large MC I don't cover the collection part of things. Basically my duty is to Open/Close Office, answer phone, serve irate customers, British Gas parts, sort surcharge/customs items cash handling and deal with the posties when they get back, more is being added to our duty each week. Our callers office is open 12 hours a day and we don't get alot of back up off the Managers (delivery office is other end of building so Managers don't come and bother us too much as its a 10 min walk & very rarely they answer the phone). I'm hoping the allowance thing works out aswell, finding it hard to make ends meet on a flat week all the time.

I had a word with my phg's today and although they know about it they don't get it.
Reading through the thread am i right in saying that it's pratically automatic that they should get it.
As,apart from us being on the vans now they have always been alone in the office and lock up ect

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
