Brother McGrew will do a better job to explain when he sees this - but until then....

In my experience, hi-vis must be worn in all hazardous areas such as work spaces where vehicles are in motion ( ie vehicle docks / yards, warehoses ) - now if you assume that to be RM property, where everyone should to a degree expect people to be moving around on foot and in vehicles, then wearing one on delivery is VITAL to your H&S, walking along a road or a path, with people driving cars and worrying about the text they are trying to send / call they are trying to take / kids playing up in the back / song on their radio.....everything except the poor bloody postie staggering down the road.

GET YOURSELF A HI-VIS - IF A SCREW WON'T GET ONE FOR YOU, ORDER ONE FROM UNIFORM....or if you want to see how easy it is if you ask properly, tell him ( in front of a witness ) "I ain't going out this office until I get a hi-vis - it's my H&S & it is part of my PPE YOU are compelled to supply!" If he refuses, refuse to go out on delivery - it is not any sort of idustrial action, you are following H&S legislation :dance

I got stopped around 5months ago by two blokes in a brand new Toyota Avensis, they were waiting in their car near one of my boxes, soon as I opened the box they jumped out surrounded me and said 'Do you know who we are' I said no they showed me there badges and said we with the RM and just doing checks in the area. Don’t quite know what they actually wanted. Very stuck up, I had the impression they thought they were some sort of MI5 folk haha idiots!!!!!

Sacking a casual, equals a saving of the square root of jack sh*t

Sacking an OPG saves at least 15hrs a week ( PT replacing FT )....and no glory / 5 lines in local rag for taking a casual to court for theft - in fact it makes RM look more f*ckwitted than it is possible to imagine......bent / lazy casual employed long enough to hide 10000's of items of mail with no action taken? Fleet Street would have a field day - and still manage to blame you & me!!!

IMO Hi viz are a waste of time for delivery posties. They would have been more relevant back in the days of 2 deliveries when it was possible to go out before the sun had risen. Nowadays i dont leave the office till at least 10 o`clock and walking around with a massive red HCT im as visible as im gonna get. This is the H&S gestapo gone mad.Judging by your post you wear one on the way to the pub or cinema too?

Sometimes an IB job can be very dangerous, think it was the late nineties a couple of IB went to search the house of a postman who, it turns out, was hording loads of mail. In the course of the search the nutter pulled a gun out of a cupboard in his bedroom and shot one of IB dead and seriously wounded the other.

Judging by the thread they appear to be nothing more than wannabe coppers, that if they cant catch anyone nicking or putting mail at risk, try to justify their existance by picking people up for minor uniform infringements. They want to try popping to my office where pouches of mail shoved under a bush is considered a safe drop.
must be a lot of pressure from on high and a culture of fear . Great management - neurotic people worrying about SFA with the " robust style " ......backward

linkinpark wrote:If IB ever approach and ask any questions just refer them to your DOM never answer anything concerning RM to anyone ID or not as you have NO way of verifying if its real or not. The only thing you have to do is show your own ID if asked but tell them you can go back to the DO under your own steam to meet up with your DOM and the plastic policeman to discuss any RM matters there. DONT TRUST ANYONE IT COULD BE A SCAM THAT MAY COST YOU YOUR JOB!
No, you CAN verify their ID. Just as anyone else, can verify yours, if they need to. Just call the Card Verification Phoneline, on 08702 400 349. The number's on the front of your ID (and theirs). Just below the expiry date.

But please don't give out any information to someone claiming to be from IB, unless you verify their ID. Because you're right Linkinpark. If you DO give out information, and they turn out to be fakes. You could loose your job. Particularly if the information is used for a theft. Don't take any chances. :hmmmm

Don't worry about them getting annoyed that you're checking up on them. I don't know about you. But I'd rather deal with p***ed off IB, than risk my job. Besides. I reckon they'd be impressed by us taking proper precautions, rather than just accepting an ID that isn't exactly hard to forge. There's no hologram, no mark (or better still words) going over part of the photo, nothing! I mean, come on RM. At least TRY to make these things hard to forge! :arrrghhh

So far, they haven't checked up on me. But they probably will, eventually.

You have me confused with someone else - I'm a PT OPG, struggling to provide on meagre wages and wife's benefits, I can barely afford to do that week in, week out, so naturally have not seen the inside of a pub for some while ( last time I had a drink was at the Bulldog back in August ) & I can't afford to buy dvds from Play or Amazon, let alone go to the cinema with the wife ( the last time was a couple of years back )! If I get run over today, and I croak ( God forbid ), if I'm not wearing my Hi-vis, RM could turn to my mrs, and say "You have our sympathies, Mrs Smoker....oh, btw, he wasn't wearing his hi-vis, so that £50k compo you're expecting? Don't hold your breath - see ya!"

Regaring the IB,they were probably doing something in that area and decided to do spot checks while they were there.
It happenend to me last year. They were at my office for something, later on in the day they pulled a few of us.
Never seen them since.

If someone comes up to me claiming to be from IB I will tell them to stay away and get my phone out to call the police. Could be anyone and I'm certainly not stopping to peer at an ID card that can be printed up by any criminal with a PC.
